On July 20, 2017, the universe lost one of it’s brightest stars. Chester Bennington didn’t have an easy childhood, but he did have talent. He was passionate about music, he was intelligent, and he made the people around him smile.
From an early age he was destined to become a star. His dream started in high school and he would bring hope to millions of lost souls around the world after he joined the hugely successful Nu-Metal band, Linkin Park, and this is their story.
Although Linkin Park played a big part in the success of Nu-Metal, there are 2 bands that are generally considered to be the founders of the iconic genre, Korn, and Limp Bizkit.
These artists formed in 1993 and 1994 respectively. With Korn being from Bakersfield, California and Limp Bizkit residing in Jacksonville, Florida.
They were essentially responsible for not only a new genre of music but an entirely new sub-culture that would dominate the early millennium. A subculture that would ultimately be Linkin Park's gateway to success.
Although other bands such as Slipknot and Deftones were also considered to be founders of Nu-Metal, it all started with the self-titled debut studio album released by Korn, on October 11, 1994.
Nu-Metal had basically taken aspects of every dominant genre from the last 50 years which included Rock and Metal, Rap, Hip-Hop, 80s electronica and even DJ style sampling, and combined them all together.
Linkin Park- Metal Machine-Interview 2000
2.10 If you like slipknot you’ll like linkin park
Nu-Metal also brought with it a new variation of anger. Whilst previous genres had come across as aggressive and angry, Nu-metal expressed a more nihilistic approach to anger. Something Linkin Park fans very much recognised in Chester Bennington's lyrics.

People who have never suffered with depression can never understand how it feels. It doesn't matter how good things around you are. If the space inside your head isn't good. Nothing is good. I'm so sick of hearing people say to get over it. If it was that simple. Nobody would be depressed. Who would choose to feel hopeless. To not be able to enjoy watching your children grow up. To do anything to numb the pain. To not think about all the things swirling inside your head. Never sleeping. Never enjoying, anything. It's a horrible existence. One I've been battling with since I was a young child. I understand why Chester is gone. I just wish someone had been there to help him when he was hopeless. If you know someone who is depressed. Being there when they need you is the best thing you can do. Just listen. Understand. Don't judge. Don't question. Just let them know that they are not alone

I THINK, everybody experience depression once in our lifetime but different people have different coping up mechanism. and for some they can't control it very good. I myself experience depression 2 to 3 years straight because i was away from my Mother that made me sad and depressed that time fb/messenger wasn't around. The only thing that made me survive it was Skateboarding. But if people saying to get over it, that not helpful at all that even adding fuel to the flame. The more people says its easy the more you get depress, the only thing you can do is atleast be there for them, if they are trying to talk listen just listen.

Yep. 💯 The sayings of “get over it”, “focus on the positive” are two of the sayings that trigger me. I have dealt with depression also since I was a teen and it is no walk in the park. Days sometimes go by and I cannot recount what I did of any significance because I was zoned out in my world.

I discovered that I suffer from depression thanks to Chester talking openly about his. It was a great support for me - knowing that I'm not alone. And his suicide was so devastating, cause I felt like if he couldn't cope with all the support from his friends and family and fans, how can I? That brought me to therapy. So, hold on, guys. And get therapy if you can. It really changes your life.

@davidu8688 Рік тому
@@lisajackson1476 you're right it wasn't his to take...but he didn't just like Cornell didn't take his. Both were making a child abuse documentary together when they both die in the same exact way? I don't think so...kinds like Robin Williams and many more. People do not know truly what Hollywood and the entertainment industry is but just look around and you'll know. Just to clarify also in case any misconceptions yes, mental health is very important and depression is a very real thing that I have battled with for too long honestly but has gotten much better. I'm a single father who also helps to take care of my mother who is widowed. So I know what stress is and have tasted anxiety that I never knew existed but there is also great misconceptions about mental health or "mental illness" as they have dubbed it. Depression, anxiety, etc are all tools and or signs to help one get back on track when their life is spiraling out if control or there are things that need to be fixed. For prophit's sake big pharma teamed with government has given the idea these are "diseases" such as bi-polarism, schizophrenia, etc when they're all just emotional trauma that was never properly dealt with. World renowned neurologist Caroline Leaf speaks to this and has shown time and time again for this to be true with pictures of the brain completely healed with the right steps taken and proper mindset instilled instead of a "disease" that one's brain is "broken". I have an uncle and an aunt who one is schizophrenic and the other bi-polar and both were traumatizedwhen they were young. This is why it always comes out later on in life because these issues have to be dealt with and especially for men a lot of shame comes with it. The only reason I even know these things are because I wanted to seek out the truth in this world that is full of lies and deception. I know many Christians who say they do bit they truly do not seek the truth or speak it always. I try to as much as possible and to know my enemy.

Our sinful nature allows not to write any which were written into the bible. Nor can any man see future, unless GOD has given him visions. Joel 2:28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: Acts 2:17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: Galatians 3:22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. I might be able to watch this now, reading all the comments, my eyes teared up. It’s a beautiful thing that so many feel the same way. I was a single mom and began listening to Linkin Park when my daughter was 14, she thought I was so lame liking the same music as her friends (she was into other genres) but that was nothing but coincidental. I’ve always listened to alternate radio and always looking for new music. I was dealing with being a single mom with my daughter’s father being sort of in her life and his mom being way too much involved. Linkin Park’s music finally gave me the strength I needed to stand up for myself, to not put up with the dysfunction. I had no support, no one had my back including my own parents. It was very hard and sometimes felt I was in actual hell. I would not have gotten through it without Linkin Park. Only people who know what that means can truly understand how true and real that is. I got through it because of Linkin Park. When I heard of Chester’s death I sat on top of my bed (I’d been reading) for eight hours doing nothing, staring, checking Twitter for updates once in a while, just nothing. I couldn’t talk about it at all. There were no words available in English that were right. I go through phases of wanting to listen to them constantly to not being able to listen. I too have never been affected by anyone’s death, including family, like with Chester. I still can’t believe it.

Chester changed my life. I was already drumming and playing guitar and was in All State Chorus in middle school into my Sophomore year of high school when they created a guitar class. I met a few guys I didn't know played guitar and would've never thought they liked any sort of non-mainstream (at the time) music. Chester gave music real substance and a living form to me. Music before my time had reason. To spread a message, to teach stories not just of past experiences but personal experiences. The 90s grunge scene was so dark and depressing and honestly, seems like a bad memory to me for some reason as at that time the "bar" was set very low in terms of skill progression as things went from 80s Speed/Hair-Metal , to Hard Rock/Industrial, and Grunge while in the background, Electronic music was there to keep true emotions alive of melancholy, nostalgia, and beautiful blissful memories to counter-balance all the Slayer Raining Blood anger, Metallica Master of Puppet conspiracy and fuck the man ideals, and Nirvana's Depressed ridden, people suck, movement. Hip hop was getting aggressive and malicious more than ever before, and people like myself who just wanted to be made to think of something, everything, and/or anything besides wanting to die, wanting to kill, or rebel against any and everyone that was different. Chester brought the normalcy of feeling something inside rather than showing fallacy on the outside trying to be whoever they think society would be most impressed by. I feel like Chester saved many lives by making it ok to be afraid of demons. Not the ones portrayed in the movies but the ones that live in many of our minds. I can only speak for myself and maybe some men who might agree, but as a man, society trained us that stoicism is the only way for a man. Show no fear, struggle, anger, or sadness. Bottled up within us all is something. Whether it be anger, sadness, happiness, etc. But we all at that time probably had anger and unanswered questions. Am I the only one who has these problems? Am I the only one suffering from *insert your personal form of physical, mental, or emotional circumstances*? Should I just end it now and not suffer? Chester came right at that moment as if I manifested an emotional advocate to speak on my behalf. I'm so happy they became as big as they did, and always will be. They made it cool to be angst, express honest feelings, and it becoming ok to be weird/different regardless of what YOUR form of weirdness is. We all could be different together. He brought people together because rich, poor, good or bad parents, we all felt something. He made me become in touch with my mind when he was trying to escape his own. Fixing other people's problems, while neglecting how own. Thank you for your selflessness and courage, Chester. I love you brother. I never met you but you know me, you wrote many many songs about feelings I felt and still feel at times. No human form needed to know someone before you meet them. Talk to them and hear them, you might understand them 100%.

When i think about the music we've missed out on because of his passing it seriously sinks me into a deep depression. There was nothing like Chesters voice. He had an amazingly hauntingly beautiful voice. Theres noone you can compare to his. He also was one of the all time greatest lyricists. When it comes to putting words to paper, and describing how I feel myself. The inner hate. The inner struggle I fight daily within my mind. Chester knew exactly how I felt. He battled the same battle I did. I felt connected to him because of those things.

I want to cry everytime I think about his sadness and all he left behind. I wish I knew him personally. Just so I could reassure he could beat the trauma by proving to victims, your abusers do not own you. Prove to them what a worthless waste of life they are and what an amazing person they couldn't destroy. At least all of you with Linkin Park gave the world a new outlet, a cry of our suffering and a message to find our voice within. Correction: he never really told his father that he was being abused. He first dropped that piece of information in a Linkin Park interview because he was angry that people questioned where the lyrics came from. Insinuating that they were just a suburban boyband and had nothing to complain about. His father found out by reading that interview and called him afterwards. So Chester kept that burden a secret for years and years and only revealed it until after he became famous. Good documentary otherwise ;)

The speed of their success led to suspicions they were manufactured, and for Bennington the accusation that he somehow "wasn't real" cut deep. "I'm like, 'Fuck you, you don't know me," he spits, grinding a fist into his hand. "And personally I would want to jump across the table and fucking kill you. 'How dare you question what I'm singing about?' Eventually I thought: 'OK, you wanna know? This is where I come from!' and I told a journalist things I've never told anybody. And my dad - a policeman - rings me up and says: 'What the fuck do you mean this happened to you when you were a kid? Who did it?' And I was thinking: 'What have I done?'" Eventually, Bennington revealed the identity of his abuser to his father. He realised his abuser had in turn been a victim and chose not to pursue him. "I didn't need revenge. I just read a comment today that someone doesn't understand how people sing along loudly and 'party' at Linkin Park's lyrics at concerts. At the meaning of the lyrics. The comment got likes. They don't understand how liberating it is to just let yourself go. It is healing. We can release feelings and pain, shout it out loud. We are not alone with the pain inside. Whether at a concert or alone at home. Right now I'm going through a really hard time and again this music is helping me. Chester's going on the eternal journey has left us alone. But I know what it means to take this step. I survived and found a way to heal. But the scars in the soul will always be there. I wish Chester so much that his sensitive soul has found peace and he has finally received healing. He has given us his precious music in his pain. I'm so sorry for him.🥺♥️🕊

I wanted this to go on and on and on! Linkin Park was revolutionary, and influenced me just before Hybrid Theory was released. I had heard "One Step Closer," on a Seattle radio station and it blew me away. There was something indescribable about the lyrics, emotion and music. Then I saw they were coming to town opening for Kottonmouth Kings whom I knew nothing about. I took my then girlfriend to the show and was blown away by their performance. After they played, I was fortunate to spend time with Chester in the bar and bought him a beer. He told me that Hybrid Theory was released that day. We talked about life, music and whatever. I was in a band at the time and gave him my number, stating that I'd love to open for them at some point. He was kind and reciprocal. Of course I never heard from him as Linkin Park blew up overnight. I'll never forget it.
