AI companies can't behave like a parasite. They need the varied populace of bharat to mature their models over time, during which time their models are capable of creating confusion, chaos and anarchy by the data it throws out for queries. If the model is not verified and certified 100%✓ reliable, then skewed and half baked data can be used to portray individuals, orgs, and countries/govts in poor light by showing biased data. AI needs to be regulated 100%.

This is much needed. What’s wrong with complying and getting govt permission for releasing a beta version of sorts and then scaling it to a full version later if the models turn out to be accurate enough. The govt is asking companies to seek permission to regulate the spread of misinformation, nothing wrong with that.

Why are we first in doing things that may slow down our growth? Especially when India is becoming IT hub of the world and the industry employs millions, why are we taking risks over it when even any of the developed countries have not regulated it? I would suggest the government should avoid any such regulations if it can slow down industry's growth in any possible way. We don't want license raj in service sector🙏

What India did is absolutely correct and again proved what India thinks today world thinks tomorrow . Elon Musk sued Opwn AI for the same reason . AI without a leash can cause havoc and great harm to people . In every top companies in the IT industry Ethical AI is a keyword . Any company who says they want to innovate unchecked can in fact say their future Goodbye . Take for example Googles Gemini who releases it in a hurry and was spitting out images of color of the Pope and the German soldiers and there were great discontent among people and they had to shut it down and not to mention recent gaffe with its AI engine calling Modi fascist which led to wide spread backlash and landed the company in a soup and its stock is steadily going down and Sundars Pichais job is at stake . AI governance and Ethical AI is tremendously important and is infact will add to investors confidence than scare it away . We absolutely need to add new penal codes in our law book what can and cannot do with AI. Like suppose you create deepfake video of a world leader or an individual and make him say anything relase in social media to malign him is punishable , you fake someone’s voice and release audio clip that person said this should be again a criminal offence .In other words AI models is like vaccine which has to be thoroughly tested before releasing to the world, if not tested it has the potential to harm thousands and cause havoc and chaos in the society . Kudos to India for taking a step in the right direction .

For example, wedding photographers are using the term AI as a marketing gimmick for just changing the background using Photoshop. Google is struggling to create a chatbot like ChatGPT. Do you think we have advanced so much ? Just like "AI" now, in 80s, people used to use the word "Cyber" for anything.

Regulations are very essential for any sector. We seem to have gone from having ineffective regulations to not having any regulations. Now as we talk about bringing regulations; it will all depend on how effective they are made to be or are they like many of the current day laws that are namesake except for their associated deliberate loopholes. As for AI is concerned; I hope the starting point is where to permit use of AI. Not only because they are heavy consumers of energy, infrastructure and natural resources like water and other elements but also because the idea of Degrowth needs to be applied to technology as much as fashion industry. Degrowth in technology will not imply not investing in research but to the fact once established working model of a tech product is know - what are the costs of roll out to public and costs in terms of human and planet health as much as priority given current day critical issues humanity faces.

Correction at 0:49 -> It's not Large AI Models, it is Large Language Models (LLM). As a CTO and Co-founder at an AI Company, this is truly disheartening to hear the government. AI is still in it's nascent stages and we need to nurture it. "AI Models" don't think. They merely reciprocate the information collected from the Training dataset. This information can be racist or woke, the developer doesn't know. However, what we can do is maintain certain checks and balances like word associations for eg. Biharis with diseases, Modi with Godhra incident to make it more suitable for the ruling party.

It is also a in built control by the government to ensure only certain players may get permission to test their models thus creating another domain where players who are hand in glove with the ruling establishment get an unfair advantage. A disclaimer would indeed be the right way to go. As of today no other country has asked that permissions be taken before testing of any LLM models.

when its a technology that is never tried before, it is better to start with no regulations to experiment new possibilities, what good is it to build hurdles when the technology itself is at its infancy. This will just discourage many firms with financial backing to experiment with the technology because if the AI makes a mistake, with the regulations the firm will risk it all on legal battles. This will reduce the risk takers and in return block the possibilities of innovation, again leading India back in the race of an emerging technology.

I stand with Govt of India on this. Very few governments are doing anything beyond lip service to AI safety/ AI regulation. Elon Musk and other prominent personalities have been warning but to no avail

This Advisory is targeted to reduce AI's impact on upcoming Elections, palki could have made the story better. 1. This rule is targeted to block something like Gemini calling Modi Fascist. 2. AI-generated content can harm elections, they know this, and that's why they're asking to label it otherwise the creator can face jail time.

Yes very good thing if someone post someone voice picture video it should say made by AI. Or if it’s generates any data it’s should show it’s sources. While company should also provide data date and it’s accuracy. Right step
