But they've never been the best team in any tournament. They came 4th that year and only gamesmanship by Pepe vs Denmark got them through the group and they were lucky to face not a very good Czechia team that year in QF. 2008 2 wins 2 losses comprehensively beaten in the QF 2004 very unconvincing host nation. If Greece didn't win it that year it would've been England or Czechia next in line. Even France & Italy would've knocked Portugal out had they met. Sweden like England, Czechia etc...also had a better goals to game ratio than Portugal and Sweden technically didn't lose a game that tournament either. Portugal spent more time behind in games than in front during that tournament and didn't have a single thing that was better than everyone else and lost basically half their games and there was nothing wrong with SolCampbell's winning goal in the QF. Euro 2000 by far Portugal's most convincing tournament to date but even that year yet again only 4th best, Netherlands & Italy were scratching their heads how they didn't win that tournament more than Portugal were. And Portugal in World cups are even worse. The one major they won was via a fucked up format where they avoided Italy, Spain, Belgium & Germany but faced all the major tournament debutants or rarely qualified teams and barely won a 90minute match all tournament they were awful.

Esta seleção era basicamente um apanhado dos amigos do Ronaldo que o Paulo Bento seleccionava para agradar ao CR vedeta e acabamos por chegar à semi final arrumados com pênaltis. Raio de mundo esquisito. Em 2000 com uma super geração fomos às semifinais e em 2004 perdemos em casa com a engraçadinha da Grécia ( Grécia, pelo amor de Deus !!! ) Em 2016 ganhamos com jogos a empatar. Nem Hollywood inventava uma história melhor.

Os jogadores mencionados não eram assim tao maus, excepto o Nelson Oliveira. Todos os outros jogaram internacionalmente ao mais alto nível. A equipa de 2012 era porventura do mesmo nível ou melhor que a de 2016... e jogava melhor futebol.
