It sounds like the symptoms I had when my meniscus tore! I suggest that you go to your doctor and see what he says, ts not worth putting off! Perhaps he would suggest a special brace for your knee.

I second this, heartily. My husband (who is 54) heard that dreadful 'pop' that led to his meniscus tear diagnosis. Please take care of yourself and seek serious help Brian. Even though it feels like it's getting better. If it's the meniscus, it's sneaky like that. I don't like leaning on the negative like this, but I just care about you and your family, like most of the folks on here, I would think. And it just might be so much more serious than you think.

I third this opinion. I popped mine turning around too fast years ago and after wearing a knee brace for a bit, it healed up well. Sadly, it was when I was in my 20s so I couldn't blame being "older" just being careless and trying to move too fast. Now, at 48, when my knees bother me, on goes the brace. Crawling around on the garden can make the knee pain come back.

I’m in medicine and I 4th this opinion. Turn, pop, pain, swelling = meniscus tear. You may need an MRI. Physical therapy or surgery are options. In the meantime, you’re smart to take it easy on it.

Brian, what you described happening to your knee, is Exactly how my hubby described what happened to his. He put off going to the Dr for 2 years, injured it a few more times and ended up having surgery. His Dr told him if he'd come in at the very beginning they may have been able to just re-hab it and avoided surgery. Might be a good idea to see your Dr.

Some things one can self treat. This is not one of them. It even might start to feel better, but long term healing improperly will give you a lifetime of problems. What the worse thing that can happen? They tell you just go home and ice it. Go. Go now. Gotta do it. Can’t half a** healing when you’ve got a homestead to work. It needs proper healing. Think of it this way, if Daisy or Bella came up with one lame leg and was in obvious pain, you’d get them checked out. Do the same for you.

I agree with those saying get it checked out! My husband is your age and he partially tore a muscle in his knee walking the dog. I know how you feel. I was in a bad car wreck beginning of March and loss complete use of my leg. I can’t walk at all - on crutches. Our entire farm plan for the year has come to a screeching halt because I’m the one that manages the farm. I don’t know if I’ll be able to grow any food for our family this year, can’t raise meat birds, or get the ducks for eggs we were planning to and the farm won’t generate any income this year. The entire farm is at a dead halt. I started my UKposts channel back up hoping to get monetized so I can support our family and keep our farm. Praying for healing for your knee! Definitely get it checked out.

The dry and dead on one side is what has happened to my rosemary the past few years. I looked into it and it appears it may not have been watered enough so that when the cold arrived the too dry branches where damaged on the side the cold arrives on, ie windy or less protected side, if that makes sense. It doesn't really for me as the side that dies is the side that is closest to our fence, but that might be where frost settles more. Also, wearing a knee brace does wonders to protect your hurt knee while going through the day to day operations. It keeps the knee from wobbling to the left or right. They can be purchased anywhere, even sporting good places as many wear them hiking.

So I'm a horse person. Been in the business for over 30 plus years. All in my family have been taught basic horse skills in the advent of chaos. Chaos seems to always be waiting around the corner. Having farm animals at home is harder than people realize. Injuries happen to humans and animals, animals get loose, animals (and humans) don't behave... The list goes on to the chaos that can happen in a snap. It's important that able bodied people living on the farm have some basic skills. Everybody really needs to know how to move the cow around and now the sheep, not to mention the chickens. That's great that your son was able to help you. I had a horrible injury and the family had to step in and feed and check on the animals. It's important to everybody's safety, humans and animals alike. I know how hard it is to have an injury and you can't get your stuff done. So frustrating. I'm praying for a quick knee recovery!

You really need to get an x-ray. Just to see what’s going on. I know, I know I don’t like to do that type of stuff either. But the knee is vital to the function of the leg. LOL Noah is growing up on a little farm and needs to learn about the care of Daisy and the coming sheep. He is a young adult and you should be able to transfer some work onto his shoulders. I sound bossy, but I grew up on a farm and learned I could handle some chores. Take care of yourself.

I did the same thing a few years ago. I tore a tendon when I was over stretching to fix the pond waterfall. It hurt so bad I wanted to cut my leg off!! I used the red light therapy and in addition a friend brought me a CBD/arnica cream (made by Be Rooted in Felton CA), that also helped. But mostly I had to rest and not walk a lot. You are walking so much better than I was able to do. And at that time (during lock down) we had gotten our three new ducklings and they were in a cage in my bathroom, they couldn't be with the adult ducks, who would kill them. So I had to get down to the floor to clean the cage and feed them twice a day. That certainly didn't help. But it had to be done. I was 63 at the time, so a major challenge. But the lights which I used constantly, the arnica/CBD, a knee brace and resting as much as possible I was able to heal and walk. Now I keep up with my QiGong practice, any stretching routine is so helpful. No worries about the videos coming out, just take care. I am sending healing thoughts and excitement to see the sheep!

I am 73 and my right knee every now and then goes off if I move wrong. It is less painful each time it happens so that is good news. I think the ligaments stretch and don't hold the joints in place. A brace may help. I straighten out my leg and it goes back in place. It doesn't happen often so it does get better in time. Take care of yourself and it is time your son and wife learn how to help with the animals just in case things happen. Just teach them to help out every now and again. Wishing you a quick healing and welcome to getting older!

Sorry to hear about the knee. Brian. "Don't even know what I did" is a common utterance of mine. I once blew my lower back out pouring water into the cat's bowl! I'm not an MD but, I will advocate for a brace with caveats. The least restricting brace that still helps, used for the least amount of time per day and for as short a duration as possible. Over use/dependance on a brace could lead to other problems. On the bright side; you're young and the problem is temporary. Grounding/earthing was discussed on this channel a few months ago. Check into it and give it a shot. It should help speed up recovery. If you feel prayers help, you got mine.

Sorry to hear about your knee and hope you get it checked out as many of your subscribers have suggested. I tore my ACL and in doing so also tore the meniscus. Oh wow, Brian, that's tough! You may be interested to know my daughter (18 yrs) had a similar - seemingly mild - injury to her knee last summer with a "pop" as you described while she was just doing some normal stretches. It ended up becoming such an injury! It restricted her movement, she even had to walk with crutches for a time, but all to say that in her case (and after multiple doctor visits and a scan) it turned out to be a sprained ligament. Very painful at times and for several months. The good news is, she did her physical therapy and her knee came back to 100%. You may want to have your injury checked if it keeps bothering you. Initially, docs thought she had just a mild knee sprain, but when it didn't heal, we had a much longer road to figure out what was wrong. If we had known sooner, we could have started therapy sooner which helped her fully resolve it. Hope you feel better soon!

Brian, I hope it's not a torn meniscus, those don't heel by themselves. The simple act of turning around to respond to a person standing behind me, with my knee in just the right position, caused two tears. For months I though it would get better-it didn't- and it actually locked up on me a couple of times with excruciating pain. That finally convinced me it was time to get help. One of the self diagnosis tests for that condition is walking forward down a hill. An ample level of pain usually points to meniscus damage and might warrant a trip to the sawbones. I hope you dodged that bullet.

This is similar, as it is your livelihood. I just keep picturing Emilie's nails, and then the soil, and then her face as she thinks about her nails in the soil. Oh my goodness! We love you Emilie! Lol. I feel your pain. Brings home the "getting old isn't for sissy" arnica cream will help. Don't stress too much. Someone is sending a message to stop and smell the roses. Enjoy the days resting.

As someone who has needed a knee replacement from numerous injuries to my knee since I was 15, I'm telling you, get it checked. In the meantime, wear a brace, but it doesn't have to be the ones with the side braces, just a fabric brace. That will help stabilize your knee to prevent more injury. Yes, a knee cap can move and cut the ligaments! You need an xray first, then a MRI. Xray won't show tissue damage, only bone damage. Please do it, plus continue icing every 15 minutes. No heat. Yes, Brian, I can hear you say get your knee replaced, but I'm not in excruciating pain. It just swells up to the point where it won't bend. Kinda hard to sit or drive if your knee isn't working right! Then I get a cortisone shot and am good for a while. Ps, I wear my brace whenever I'm doing heavy work in my garden. Can't wait to see the sheep and Daisy's reaction. Take care ❤

Suggestions: Use a brace. Use a cane on opposite side to provide support. When you elevate your leg, place support under your knee with a rolled up towel.

Just a thougt, a cheap Doctor visit now is better than an expensive Surgeon visit later. Prayers for a quick healing 😊

There's never a good time for an injury! I went to my daughter's high school graduation in a wheelchair. With severe injuries to both knees I garden almost exclusively in tall raised beds.

Please consider an MRI. Possibly a meniscal tear but with that kind of pain could also be slight ACL tear. Unfortunately I've had numerous of both with resulting numerous surgeries. Prayers for pain relief and quick recovery. Its a miserable "beach", knee injuries.

Years ago I tripped over the garden hose and fell pretty hard. I didn’t go to the doctor for about 4 years. It healed but never became normal. I had surgery. It was easy peasy and I shouldn’t have waited. My knee is great now.

Oh, I’m so sorry my husband had a really bad knee injury in high school from changing his shorts in a high school. Locker room twisted on the bench and ended up with surgery so you have my compassion and understanding. I hope you recover quickly. Be careful. Don’t use it too soon.

I feel for you. My worst fear is getting injured, especially the start of garden season. Hope you recover fast.
