It's always sad to me to see such devotion and sacrifice from the Russian people to continue to be taken advantage of and screwed over by those in power.

I visited Moscow and St Petersburg years ago when Delta Airlines first started flying into Moscow. The tourist areas were fine but we took the train from Moscow to St Petersburg and poverty was extreme.

This was made before the fall as Gorbachev I saw talking here-and-there, and apparently still in-charge. Since ALL there has changed from State Atheism to Russian Orthodox Christianity. All the cathedrals are now back in-operation as intended and museums no-longer, with very many churches restored by the Government. This video digs deep into matters honestly, according to it's rather made-clear attitude. I enjoyed it and, learned too.

And whoever did the -cutting and splicing - together between old and new, excellent work. - you don't remember your past, how can you face the future -. However the mistakes of the past should not be rammed down our throats every day.

I've always been fascinated with the architecture of the Red Square and I only learned that the Kremlin basically symbolized the "wall", I really thought it pertains to the Russian government. Hahaha. Love this new knowledge and I know it's a weird time, but I hope that I would be able to go to Russia one day and explore the Kremlin

This is right where I am in my Russian history book reading. I start the Glasnost chapter tomorrow.

I have had a fascination with Russia and the old Soviet Union since I studied A level history at college. We were supposed to have a week long trip to Moscow, I would have loved to visit the Lenin mausoleum and other historical places. Sadly this was in 1991 around the time of the attempted coup and then dissolution of Communist rule, so the trip was put on hold and then I finished my studies and went off to University and have not had the opportunity to visit again, one day I hope to. We also had a brilliant teacher and she organised for us to have pen pals in Russia who we would write back and fourth to. I had two, one in Russia and one in Poland - we kept in contact for many years. My Russian pen pal used to ask me to send tapes of pop music which I did and he would send me things like CCCP badges and a badge with Lenin on. We found it funny how we were sending each other completely different things, I still have them today. He used to call me the 'English Komsomolet' and i used to call him a 'imperialist reactionary and a careerist cosmopolitan'. He used to ask if I didn't have anything better to do than wonder about who is on Russian stamps he also told me I'd be single forever if I don't find something better to do, Its not going to attract girls! 🤣🤣 This is because i told him I was fascinated by the stamps on the letters he sent me as they were often different with different things and people on them so I would ask them what they were (yes, what a geek). I used to jokingly apologise that all ours had the Queen on them so were boring as they were always the same. He sent me some Soviet postage stamps which featured British people on them, one was Kim Philby the spy who defected to the USSR and one featured Scottish Socialist John Mclean, it was pretty amazing to see British people on these stamps, because of their support of the Soviet Union - . I had to ask my teacher who they were first, no internet in those days! He also used to tell me Russian swear words and slang terms - kind of things teenagers do, which at the time i found hilarious. Then decades later i got a postcard out of the blue from my Polish pen pal, he sent it to my parents house - turns out he moved to the UK and has a wife and family not far from where I live. We met up and are now friends, he is a successful builder and actually built the extension on my house! How mad how life turns out, imagine predicting that would happen in 1990, funny how things turn out.

Kremlin’s wall is a burial site. Stalin destroyed old cemetery (and built recreational parks) but the lenin’s mummy. Lenin’s mavzoley build by Aztecs blueprints. More - in moscow subway you could to recognize huge skull with the star on the head… From Okhotniy ryad to Tverskay subway station. so this is from before the fall. i'd be more interested in seeing a tour of the kremlin as it is now. in '84-'86 i was a US soldier stationed in west germany waiting for a communist invasion that thankfully never came.

This is the second to third such documentary where people rattled around in this amazingly strange time of openness before it turned into a thugaracy. May Fortune shine on the Russian people as they shake off the twisted system inflicted upon them by centuries of inertia.

They don't have time for fairy tales but, incidentally, this dates back to the Russian Empire/tsarist era, Russian fairy tales are excellent. The protagonists and heroines all have high moral values.

At the heart of Russia is the Kremlin where the carcass of Lenin is preserved and unburied. It is for this reason that Russia will always be communist. It is the same thing in communist China where the carcass of Mao Tse tung also remains preserved and unburied in Red Square of Beijing.

Only in Russia would they destroy their own cultural history. I would have loved to hear their reasons why a 14th century church couldn’t have been spared from destruction. I mean they were even gonna tear down the iconic St Basil’s Cathedral ffs. It’s literally the symbol of Russia.

Gorbachev wasn't the idiot. Perestroika and Glasnost had to be done. The law on cooperatives had to be made as well. Leadership within the economic sphere purposely sabotaged the plans that Gorbachev and his reformist colleagues put into place. My country had nothing to do with what ended up happening. Kryuchkov and his KGB also stole over 50 billion dollars from the USSR and put it into an offshore account. I still think that nobody has any idea about what happened to that money. Yeltsin stole and his family got insanely rich. Mikhail had to spend the rest of his life making commercials and writing almost one book a year in order to both support his family as well as to keep his foundation afloat. Without Ted Turner's help he wouldn't even have been able to have a building to house his foundation. All of that is incredibly sad for a man who had done much good in the world. He was far from from perfect, and some of his decisions caused much tragedy, i.e. Chernobyl, Lithuania, and Nagorno-Karabakh, but history will look upon him very favoribly, especially with respect to the next two leaders of Russia.

This was the Soviet Union before the storm. The Soviet Union collapsed after the storm. But the Tsar in the Kremlin has not changed. Whether it is the Russian Empire, the Soviet Empire, or the current Tsar Putin, the essence has never changed.

That was interesting to watch, and the narrator's snark was hilarious. Looks like this was done/released in 1991. I noticed the Ukrainian flag and symbol in one of the large protests. Perhaps it is time for the Soviet... er Russians to overthrow their government again. The next time they do, I hope they can join the rest of the world with more trust of others and less desire for conquest and drive to reestablish the Russian/Soviet empire. Alas, they are Russians, so I don't think it is possible.
