I met Jay Sebring, although I dont remember. Was May of 65 i was 2 years old ive written my mother for the picture she has of him and me. He gave me my first haircut. My mother worked for Marion Robert Morrison, better known as John Wayne. He demanded i get a hair cut ha ha ha, i was a tiny tow head with hair too thick for a two year old. My mother was taken back by his demands but eventually gave in. My mother was nervous, he told her to relax and trust him. John Wayne had his hair done at the sebring salon, so my mother read a magazine while i was looked after. She never imagined how I'd look when he was done. He gave me a pixie cut, and my mother fell in love with the style. I will upload the images she sends me. It was amazing to see the differences before and after. He was a beautiful man. It's such a shame that he didn't get to finish his dreams.

Speaking of John Wayne...I hadn't read these comments about him previously so my opinion wasn't influenced by this first haircut story. At mark 7:02, As the male hair model rotates to face the camera, I thought it was John Wayne for a moment. BTW-the music you chose for this clip is SO SWANKY (and a perfect fit for the subject at hand.)

Jay Sebring was a sports car enthusiast. Sebring was born Thomas John Kummer and changed his name to Sebring after being inspired by the Sebring Car Race. Sebring owned a number of sports cars including a AC Shelby Cobra and a Porsche 911. Jim Morrison was a client of Sebring. Morrison was so impressed with Sebring's cars that when Morrison's record company offered to buy him a gift for completing an album on time and on budget, Morrison asked for a Shelby Mustang GT500. Eventually the GT500 'disappeared' and Morrison died not too long after that. Today Morrison's Mustang is on the top of the list of missing Mustangs.

Very interesting video. I hope this building is not torn down, or significantly altered, because it is historic. Historic because of his accomplishments in life, and his unfortunate and tragic death. I visited his grave at the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Southfield Michigan about 10 years ago.

Hello Scott! My cousin used to date a famous stylist here in Seattle back in the late 70's. His name was James Buss and he was murdered in his apartment. This would be a great story to report on. The creep tried drugging me when I went to his place to make money cleaning his apartment. Seeing that he was dating my cousin, and I was 16, I was safe. I did get out due to my strong will. They were no longer dating when he was removed. Great video Scott! My era ❤

There's no question he was an amazingly inventive person. EVerything that is "standard" today, he was doing first - the look of his salon, the hair styles, the marketing, the spa-like atmosphere, the products. Also he died trying to protect the woman he loved. A truly brilliant and noble person. It would be very sad if this building was torn down

Thank you so much Scott for uploading this. I always knew the surface stuff about Jay Sebring, and that he was a victim of the Manson Murders and a hair stylist. But I never really got to really dig into who he was as a person and as an artist of men's hair. This video not only showcases him and his space but really gives you the sense of what he meant to Los Angeles. You're keeping their Spirits alive by sharing who they were in life. And it is absolutely beautiful. Last night I watched Once Upon a Time in Hollywood again and was overcome with the sense of beauty and relief of the what if of it all and then seeing this today it's like history full circle in such a profound way❤. ❤❤❤❤

Thank you for showing us inside . It seems history is being erased these days everywhere . My city , Calgary , Alberta is going under densification . Many older buildings and historical homes are getting knocked down , in order to put tacky apartments, duplexes, row houses in . Sickening !

This is all kinds of awesome Scott. Thanks for allowing us to take a look inside Jay's salon. It's great that you got to document the place at this moment & time. It still look amazing & well kept. From all I've seen and read about Jay he was such a talented & successful guy. His life was cut short by crazy people. It would be cool if someone bought & kept it a salon, but as you mentioned you never know in LA. I wonder if Quentin Tarrantino would buy & preserve something like this? I can totally see a greedy developer buying this building & putting condos on it.

I love your videos Scott - they are always fascinating and accurate. I hope the salon is purchased by somebody who will keep the building and business as a beauty salaon. It would break my heart to see the building demolished. The photo of Jay (3:21 in your video) has Larry Geller behind him with the hair dryer in his hand. Larry was one of the first stylists that Jay hired for his salon. Elvis Presley was one of Larry's clients when Elvis was a customer at the Sebring Salon. Elvis offered Larry a job to work exclusively for him and Larry stayed with Elvis until Elvis' death. Larry is still alive and has videos on UKposts and has published a couple of books on Elvis. I am a big fan of your UKposts channel as well as your webpage/vlog FindADeath. Thanks so much for posting this.

LA is always in such a race to erase the history that made it special. Now that the buildings where the Viper Room was is being razed, the Sunset Strip that I used to party on in the late 80's is almost unrecognizable, and not for the better.
