While much of Ukraine's success against Russian Forces has been down to agile tactics and advanced hardware, the ability to improvise with equipment is proving to be equally important.
Drones have been vital.
The agricultural drone has been converted to carry explosives - and is typical of the ingenuity Ukrainian defenders have been showing.
Former Royal Marine and documentary maker Emile Ghessen has been to see an improvised drone factory near Kyiv.

As a aviation engineer and a RC hobbyist, I would do EXACTLY the same. This kind of drones are easy to build and fly, cheap, quiet, able to carry different type of weapons or reconnaissance equipment. With a good long range drone, the artillery can precisely strike enemy positions. There are so so many things you can use drones for on a battlefield.
@1SCme
@1SCme 2 роки тому
I am surprised hobbyists haven't created a larger homemade attack drone, similar to what Yemen makes (2 cylinder engine, PVC-foam-fiberglass body, mostly consumer electronics), but with a mobile as the controller. Has GPS for targeting-crude altimeter-speed, and orientation (angle) sensors built in.

In Australia we have very strict limits on communication power and distance. I know a lot of other countries are similar. I can do just line of sight to a fair distance just on what is legal in civilian, but doing full video stream remote over distance is the only thing stopping me from running up prototypes. Any suggestion?

@Jimminy-Crickets
@Jimminy-Crickets 2 місяці тому
@@abdelaleem4026 Its really not that hard of a thing to pull off, although it is kinda finicky. They use simple mechanisms like a strap that holds a grenade to the drone, and a servo that pulls the strap off, and down goes the grenade. They hit their targets using the cameras that are onboard the drones. A lot of the times its pretty hard to aim the explosives, but the great thing about these drones is that they're so cheap that its not really a problem to strap another grenade on to the drone and try again. Most of what I'm saying is from my experience as an RC hobbyist, which is what most of these guys are. I'm sure Ukraine has more advanced drones that they use too, although I wouldn't know much about those because they probably want to keep most of that information to themselves.

Oh most definitely. Utilising this area of work has always been essential in war and should be done even more so at times like this when our generation are able to show our potential in a way that hasn’t been allowed to fully express itself before despite how lifesaving it can be. It finally started poking its head out more from the older generations in WWII, but now it’s making its appearance again properly at a university plus level in this war. I love it. We are ready. All we have to do now is scale it up.

Like most, i have watched quite a few videos with you guy's dropping munitions on the Russians. The one thing that stands out is the mini bombs are horizontal to the craft, but should actually be pointing down in a vertical fashion which would increase stability in the direction of the target! I understand this might raise some new design challenges, but i think it would be beneficial.

Great job Ukraine, keep up the amazing work. You have taken out so many armoured vehicles. I wish the QE class had a CATOBAR or EMAL system so it could launch refueling drones and/or offensive drones. Seeing how deadly drones have become, even more "simple" kinds, they will be the future of warfare.

@@danielwhyatt3278 Sadly they can't since they have no way to launch them unless the UK creates vertical lift drones or uses helicopter drones. I do hope for the best. I really wish their was a launcher be it steam or electricity on the QE
@danielwhyatt3278
@danielwhyatt3278 2 роки тому
@@ThatCarGuy Yeah I don’t think the vertical lift off will be a problem. We can probably transition over to multiple medium-sized Quadcopter drones on the QE or flying wing designs to make use of the ramp that is built into the aircraft carriers. Especially as when they are smaller they don’t usually have to worry too much about A short range take off track.

@@danielwhyatt3278 "We can probably transition over to multiple medium-sized Quadcopter drones" Agreed something like the US MQ-8 fire scout until the UK can make their own would be great. " flying wing designs to make use of the ramp that is built into the aircraft carriers. Especially as when they are smaller they don’t usually have to worry too much about A short range take off track." They still need a launcher as they are usually heavy, especially if they carry any kind of payload, nor are they the fastest do to their low observable design and why their IR signature is so low. For example the B2 is 628mph/1000kph, so it's not even supersonic.

Imagining a grabber attachment hanging from the drone that would allow it to attach itself to trees so it can loiter in an area far longer while providing surveillance or preparing a kamikaze strike.

They need much more especially the heavy lift drones carrying 4 grenades. We need to send them hundreds of these drones each day. Why are they building all of them. We can do that and they can finish them off. Also cheap drones with a single grenade attached. Just let the drone drop onto the target and guide it down. Drones produce minimal noise as they drop but can be controlled. Do not hover above like the large drone, just fly them into the target like a window or hatch. They need thousands of these which can be controlled by a mobile phone. Each soldier should have at least one of these each day. I wish I could help.

Videos like this are utterly irresponsible. Not only are the people in the video clearly visible. But the location might also be determined by comparing it with old images and videos. (as they said in the video, this place used to be used by civilians.) Please take this video down again.
