After three days orbiting Earth, Dragon and the Inspiration4 crew- the world’s first civilian mission to orbit - safely splashed down off the coast of Florida at 7:06 p.m. EDT on Saturday, September 18, 2021, completing their first multi-day low Earth orbit mission.
Dragon performed a series of departure phasing burns to leave the circular orbit of 575 kilometers and then jettisoned its trunk ahead of it deorbit burn. After re-entering the Earth’s atmosphere, the spacecraft deployed its two drogue and four main parachutes in preparation for the soft water landing.
Upon splashdown, the Inspiration4 astronauts were welcomed home by the SpaceX team and quickly brought on board the recovery vessel. SpaceX transported Dragon back to Cape Canaveral for inspections and refurbishment ahead of future human spaceflight missions.

I love the inside of the capsule, just some easy chairs with one of the passengers taking pictures with their phone. And they didn't have to do any flying, all by remote and it went amazing. The boats are practically under them as they land, perfect coordination. And the passengers don't even have to get their feet wet.

you mean the crew? Why are heroically different from all the people going to space before them? All those Astronauts, Cosmonauts, Taikonauts from last year or before are less heroes because....? Anyway, i didn't see the heroic thing here, sorry for being the sad guy. Also, i don't get the “civilian” thing, ISS crew from ESA are not “Astronauts” or military or anything “special”. You just need: - "Minimum of a master’s degree in natural sciences, medicine, engineering, mathematics, or computer sciences or a degree as an experimental test pilot and/or test engineer from an official experimental test pilot school." Coupled with 3 years of relevant professional experience and the obvious things about knowing English, willing to being far from home, work under pressure and also having something to do on an International Space Station. Also, the previous plus a physical disability to enter the Astronaut with physical disability vacants that has nothing to do with being physical disabled, its not about having a special treatment because your disability, its just you have a vacant reserved for disabled peole but you will be in equal conditions...or some similar auto-justification brainfart like that Why this is less civilian than paying and come through astronaut training is a bit weird. Also, NASA had a teacher travelling on the Shuttle to the ISS. I think it will be better if they just plainly sell “astronaut certificates” with a serial number. "Luna landing badges" "Mars migrant visa" I think they will even be happy with “Lunatic” and “Mars Invader” medals. They are stretching so much the language to be the nearest to "first" possible without the term paying or tourist that is getting weird. If they just could fit "first or business class" somehow instead of tourist, they will be ok with it.

For the first time in 3,500,000,000 years that life has existed on Earth, and for the first time in the past hundreds of years where humanity has gained significant knowledge of space and its sciences, that it is now possible for an all-civilian crew in a non-formal manner to go to space and witness the same view, that only the exclusively few and trained astronauts in the last 60 years of human spaceflight get to see. This is truly a tremendous sight and sound to see and hear. The people working in SpaceX and everyone involved - literally speaking - represent 3,500,000,000 years of "progress" from the moment when life first rose and to the point right now where commercial spaceflight is getting more and more commonplace. SpaceX can’t develop all of this privately. NASA would probably manage the moon base and Mars but use SpaceXs launch vehicles and tech. NASA needs more funding.

@@fork9001 not only nasa. The world government should drop their differences and unite for the betterment of humanity.
@fork9001
@fork9001 2 роки тому
@@chromatic4542 You know that's unrealistic. But I think nasa and roscosmos budget should be increased. Then roscosmos can actually do something with the proton outside of launching modules (research missions to moon, Mars etc.) And nasa will have enough funding to contract more companies and build its own launch vehicle.
