This looks perfect for what I'm hoping to do! A few questions, did the overhead view ever get implemented, and if not how sharp of an angle can you go? Can I cut a road through the forest, or scatter around the road? And is it good for cinematics, like fast car scenes? Thanks for any insight, looking forward to grabbing this.

A truly great add on and very much needed .Would there be any plans for an update ,perhaps to add an image plane to be viewed from height/overhead trackable to an overhead camera ?

Yep, that's supported by default by the add-on, using the density/scale map

Thanks, its working very nicely so far. I was wondering, since I don't have the scatter addon, is it possible to control the distribution of the trees using image textures without it?

@@NickNenov ah, yeah, you can also use the weight layers system, and use a procedural texture layer set to image texture, and that will let you control both density and size with an image

@@NickNenov yeah, sure, here's the documentation for weight layers; sites.google.com/view/alphatreesdocs/weight-layers/overview I've not quite got around to having a page for the individual layers, but it gives you a good overview of how the whole system works. Hope that helps!

I'm getting black as if the material isnt set to alpha hashed when i render in cycles. not sure how to turn it off. I used scatter5. Any tips?

Ah, yeah, in cycles you need to turn up the number of transparency bounces in order for it to render a lot of layers of transparency. It's in Render >light paths > transparent, and a value of 30 is usually pretty good. This is done automatically when scattering with the alpha trees add-on, but not when using Scatter5. Hope that helps!

Yes! Although, non tree models will take a little extra work to get working (that will change in the next major update though)

Just installed this along with Scatter 5. Is there a way to have the biome face the camera? I don't see a setting available.

Hi Matt, yeah, you can find the setting in the rotation section in the tweaking panel (I think it's a checkbox for tangent rotation? I can't check currently as I'm away from my computer) That will give you an object selector where you can choose the object for the trees to point towards Hope that helps!

@@StrikeDigital3D that seems to have done it. I was hoping to set them up to face the "scene camera" like in the normal Alpha Tree settings. I'm guessing that's not possible?

@@MattScobel yeah, unfortunately I don't think that's possible, although I'm by no means an expert at using the Scatter add-on, so just to make sure I'd advise asking the dev BD3D, he manages to pack all kinds of crazy features in there.

Hi, unfortunately that's not possible, as most of what makes the trees look realistic is in the material, which can't be transferred to other programs

how do I rotate to camera when using a biom w scatter5? also some tips and tricks on scaling or terrain scaleing to get this right..... the time laps of the sunset video needs a step by step the timelaps is nice but useless as a reference....

As for a tutorial for the sunset scene, that might happen at some point, it just depends when I have time. Hope that helps!

Since the effect is mostly done in the shader, no, you'd need to recreate it yourself if you wanted to use the trees in Unreal

Hi Ben, do you have the latest alpha trees version? (2.1.7 I think) It has been fixed so it should now work with 3.2
