For me it was Instagram on iOS17 (until the last Instagram update), on my 15 Pro AND 13 Pro Max. Just having it open was enough to heat both phones. So my guess is that it's a software issue, maybe a combination of an iOS bug and a bug in an app.

Good test, you put in effort to document the comparison. With this said: The Titanium issue has to be looked at two fold: Titanium acts as an insulator, much better than Aluminum, both ways. So a temperature measured outside the titanium plate should then be converted to a temperature INSIDE the phone. So for 90 degrees measured outside of the phone, knowing the Titanium heat conduction factor, the temperature calculated inside the phone will be more that the temperature inside the Aluminum phone. How much more? By the difference between conduction factors. So if the conduction factor of Ti is half of Al and you measure the same outside housing temp .......

I think that's the problem with cases like this, same with "fast decline of battery health". It will always never be exactly the same circumstance as any other with the same phone or problem. There are just too many variables at play when trying to test it out or to figure out things. Very interesting test. The results kind of make sense. I'd be surprised if the body material played a huge role between the Stainless Steel 14 Pro and the Titanium 15 Pro. Aluminium has a thermal conductivity of around 236 W/m/K vs ca 14.3 for stainless steel and 22.4 for Titanium. The stainless steel will therefore conduct heat at the slowest rate of the 3 materials used. I think it has a lot more to do with the way the computing power is used as well as the heat transfer area of the larger phones.

This was a great charging video session. I learned a lot between all the distinctive models of the iPhones and the Samsung. I have a iPhone 15 Pro Max and for the first few days, I’ve been using MagSafe charging for the most part. Yes, it’s heating up only at the magnetic charging part And it takes maybe about over 3 to 4 hours to have a full battery charge without using the phone too much. Me personally I have not experienced any overheating issues maybe because the protective case that I have my OtterBox and are usually don’t use high definition stuff like that just the basic essentials of texting looking at videos a couple, Luke camera pictures here and there nothing too extreme or over-the-top. Just like you said, there are a lot of variables that these phones may overheat, and the software issue could be a possibility. A titanium issue could be a possibility, and also what you touch on certain topics via Forbes and other sources they sound completely little bit satirical I would say, but nothing that should hinder other consumers to buy the product. Thank you.

My galaxy s21 FE that was 500 bucks brand new charges in 30-40 minutes (from 10 percent to 85 percent) with my wired Samsung super fast charger. It also doesn't get even remotely hot while it charges, and has wireless charging too, which I don't use because it's slower. Charging is one of the most important aspects of a phone, and apple is wayyy behind in that category.

Having 2 iphone 15, the 1st 15 pro max Nature Titanium, used for 2 weeks, nothing wrong or heating issue whatsoever; 2nd came in 3 days ago, 15 pro max White, the only heating peak was when I just unboxed the iphone and restoring the data from Icloud, phone call, charging, video recording, all these functions going through normally without any heating issue or uncomfortably hot situations. I also want to mention that both of my phone have the hybrid magnetic cases and screenprotectors on. So, just use your phone normally, agree with what uncle Lew said in the video: nothing seems like design flaw or out of ordinary.

Great video! Very interesting info. Basically, if you heavily use a powerful phone with a large battery and then fast charge it, it gets very hot! It does appear that the heating has been remedied with software patches. When my 15 Pro Max gets here the first thing I do after setup is update the software. I'm glad I waited for a few months to see that issues were resolved. Mine is the natural titanium. I really wanted the blue model since I've been buying black phones for as long as I've been using smartphones. Nonetheless I'm glad I finally bit the bullet and ordered one on eBay. I ordered the 256 model and all other sellers wanted $100 to $300 more for the blue model. It's definitely not a deal breaker for me. I'm looking forward to the new cameras. Dynamic Island? Meh. I'm not a sports fan so about all I'll be using it for is Alaska Airlines, Flight Radar 24 and an occasional timer. The action button? I'll probably use it as the default mute button. USB C is great because I have plenty of chargers and plenty of quality cables, all MFI certified.

@navindu9889

Electrical engineer here, it's to do with the fact that wireless chargers use induction, much like induction cook-tops which produce large amounts of heat in less conductive metals, so yes the physics principles used for wireless charging will naturally heat up surrounding components and will cause batteries to deteriorate faster. Fast charging will also cause issues as the heat produced is proportional to the square of the current supplied through a cable (e.g. 3x charging speed will result in 9x heating). I try to avoid fast charging unless I need my phone charged quickly in a pinch, and I never use wireless chargers.

Hi, i just bought ip15 pro max 2 days ago and same issues i am experiencing. I opened few apps when i experienced that, so try to check which apps causing that 1 by 1. I open you tube played for 5 minutes just fine. Closed the apps and open the Shopee, then when i try to browse some products and played attached video on the product review…. You know what happens?? It shoot the heating like not normal. I repeat for 3x and confirmed it is somewhat not compatible and it heat up. So what i did is remove that shopee apps for now, i dont have this problem using my old ip13 pro max.

Thanks for the review. As I think we all know running a demanding app and charging at the same time will cause any phone to heat up. I am sure there are apps out there that probably still need to be optimized for the iPhone 15. Software updates will deal with this.

I just got the 15 pro max and haven’t experienced any heat problems which was one of my concerns before getting it. It was regularly cool

My old iphone Xs Max used to overheat when charging and I thought it was an old battery issue, especially when it's not holding much of a charge. And so I assumed the newest phone wouldn't have this issue only for it to overheat when charging. I hope this is a software issue and can be fixed. I updated to 17.2.1 so maybe that will fix it?

The issue is with the 3nm yields from TSMC not being as efficient, where regardless of that, Apple still added a GPU core and overclocked the CPU to still have a year over year bump in performance.

I’m sure older phone should get more hot

It's purely a software issue and Apple have confirmed it. It's going to be fixed soon.

@@joeynyesss1286 That's more damage control, even the A16 was showing signs of overheating under load. If they do end up fixing it, it'll likely be underclocking the SoC

@@joeynyesss1286Only by throttling/ underclocking. The A17 is one poorly developed chip. Looking at it's tech spec, this thing should FLY and be as cool as ice. The rumors about it having problems in development were right all along. Unfortunately.

@@mistamaog they haven’t done this though and benchmarks done on 17.0.03 are the same. The issue was found to be to do with instagram accounts.

You can recreate it with two types of environments mainly the Max model using Third Party chargers, mainly due to you guessed it to the end user. Secondly, turns out running 4k 30 fps in cinematic with any external battery will get so hot you cant hold it, like smoking hot.
