Very glad to see you do these "seminars" on night photography!! I'm a few miles north of the Las Vegas Strip and if there is another place on the planet with more light pollution, I haven't found it! I love your videos, Just a suggestion though, would it be possible to do like an old faithful shot that you do on every phone model and see how they bridges over time and are able to go back and compare different generations. Cool video!!!!

Shot yesterday my first astro picture with the pixel 8 pro. Very good BUT it is insane to me that the iPhone captures basically the same or better in only 30 seconds. Makes it hard to beat imho. Yes the 15 pro is a huge jump from the 14.

Nice comparison, I own the S23 Ultra and I admit the iPhone was better here, but I am curious how would it be, if You set manually the settings and shutter speed on S23 Ultra to 30 seconds in those situations. Personally, I tried to use the Astro in Expert Raw, but I found out, that setting manually 30 sec exposure is better in most of the situations....and You don ´t need to wait 4 minutes at least :D

Did you set the focus on a star in the background on those photos with the rock in the foreground or ?

Try go to camera asistant in samsung and set prioritizing into quality only. The photos are much sharper, less noise and more detail. It is really a big jump than defult setting camera on samsung.

Would the 15 pro be able to take same photos as the pro max?

The iPhone's night mode has HDR post-processing, just like the Google Pixel's, but the S23 Ultra doesn't have this feature in its astro mode. I think a good comparison would be to use both in manual mode.

I’d be keen to know if the camera software is the same across all the iphone 15 series. Or if it’s just the pro max that handles this really well. I was keen to switch to an S23 ultra, but after watching a number of videos changed my mind. The 100 zoom is unmatched, but seems the other camera aspects do have some flaws. Iphone please get the zoom so we can see the moon!!!!!

I go into remote areas to take pics and my paranoia is always maxed out. Lol 10:33 speaking about forgeound, I wonder how well it would capture a person. Ive done it on the 22 and it was bad, like not that extreme but just bad.

Never liked the astro mode in ExpertRAW. Always shooting manual and then stacking the frames myself on the pc and editing in photoshop and the results are so much better that way. One thing that ruins the iPhone for me is the artifacting in the sky. In some places if looks like an oil painting.

The iPhone seems to have fixed the position of the stars after taking several pictures, and it looks really good to be able to take more stars. But even if I have an iPhone 15, I can't take these pictures because the area I live in has a golf course and fishing area that emits light, so I can't see the Milky Way 😢

I need to do this with my iPhone 15 Pro! :)

I believe Apple said that they have a software technology that minimizes or eliminates star trails.

The Iphone's detail in the stars is really weird when pixel peeping, it's a ton of wormy connect the dots and a sort of aliasing thing going on. I think it's built in noise reduction applied to the raw. I dont understand how you're ignoring this. Just look at some of the brighter areas of the core. Yuck! If you dont look to hard it's nice.

Astromode with 4 minutes is shit on Samsung after recent or not so recent update. Expert raw 30 seconds for night sky and you will get similar results as with an iPhone. I stopped using astro mode like 3 months this ago after I realized it works bad and not like before. Moved to good old expert raw manual shooting and it works like a charm. Sadly astro mode is way different from the one Shayne used in older videos. My colleague has iPhone 15 PM and we tested it for a few nights vs mine s23 Ultra. It went pretty much toe to toe on manual 30 seconds tripod shooting with around 1600 ISO using Expert Raw. But I did noticed that iPhone works better if you have some light in the foreground, like tree or a house with a bit of lightning. In total darkness was pretty much the same

The galaxy s23 astrophotography mode is not the best , the stacking is very weak. I prefer the pro mode and set it up to 50mb sensor, then I see difference

i remember u praising the s21U better so its either the astro photo dropped or the iphone just got incredibly better

I upgraded to 13 pro max to 15 pro max and so very satisfied but 3 years ago i sm a samsung users but I change to apple when i notice after every new phone comming they down graded the old one kind of nerfing it like i a game. Just sharing my experience. But of iphone my 13 pro max got better and better but really like the 15 usbc. But after using the 15. Whoooooo.. 20 years as photographer never use phone for photo but the 15 pro max change my mind.

There is sth wrong with expert raw,softwarewise and I am 100% sure,i believe the issu started on april 2023, take a look at samsung promotional video of s23 ultra astrophoygraphy capabilities, they were boasting about it. Sth happened to the software, and am not sure what is it

It’s got less star trails because on the IPhone they put an anti glare coating on the lenses but just didn’t tell anyone 😂😂😂

I thought the Samsung would do much better, as I’m surprised how the iPhone handled the shots.

Samsung has jacked their camera processing up. I used to be able to take handheld night sky photos with the S21 with almost no star trails. Now S23 gets nothing but star trails and out of focus if I try to shoot the night sky by hand.

Honestly im very disappointed with ny s23 ultra. I had the s21 and oneplus 9pro before this and they both did better with the night mode
