This Fields slander is outrageous at this point. Folks want to bring up these cherry picked stats but can’t name a qb that’s had to deal with subpar coaching, oline, receivers, and defense until the sweat trade at the same time and produced at a high level and won more games than lost. Which is why they should keep him, draft MHJ, and build the team.
@kevinc8955
@kevinc8955 4 місяці тому
Every great QB that goes high in the draft goes to a terrible team. Cincy was a laughing stock before Burrow got there and he played behind a way worse line than Fields has. Same with Stroud in Houston (19th rated for pass block). I’ve just never seen a guy this below average in year 3 that went on to become elite. He’s single read now, doesn’t use his running back safety release valve when the pocket breaks down, and he doesn’t release the ball fast enough. I’m not sure if he has the ability to read coverage and judge db leverage to cross guys off before the ball is snapped. And he can’t do it post snap fast enough. And this will be 2 years in a row where Chicago doesn’t use their #1 pick to get a QB. If they are sitting at 3-6 next year halfway through the season and Fields is still putting up middling numbers, fans are going to revolt.

@@kevinc8955 Burrow went to a team with 3 top 15 NFL WR on it. So while the line I agree wasn't good the WR talent is miles apart. His first two years in the NFL the WR talent were players who were cast offs from other teams. Claypool was a failed trade and the other WR aren't seeing the field since they can't catch the ball. The offensive line isn't that good either as they put up the historic futility mark of pressure rate in the first 2 seconds of a snap.

@@kevinc8955 Your comments may have been accurate last year, but not accurate now. Bears O-line was the worst in the NFL last year, and 27th ranked this year. Stroud's line is better his rookie year. Burrow is an elite QB, most QB's can't do what he does. I will agree Fields doesn't anticipate/trust his reads fast enough. But he is progressing through reads and throwing to the check down more than he's ever done. Fields has plenty to work on, but the guy hasn't been surrounded with even a DECENT O-line, much less much offensive talent. Now that the defense is playing better, they are winning games.... imagine that. It's a tough decision for Poles, and I'll trust whatever direction he chooses to go. I prefer to trade down and fill the many holes this team needs to plug. Bears won't be 3-6 next year as long as they address O-line, WR, Edge and S at minimum.

If you actually watch Justin fields you’ll realize the hate around this man isn’t even close to justify. This is a perfect example of lazy reporting. You say take the one that’s better between Caleb and fields and Stephen A brings up only statics to back his statement. Idk if Caleb is better than Fields. See that's the part a lot of people overlook. Justin has had to deal with a lot of scrutiny by not only supposing to be the "savior" for a QB starved city and franchise, there's also a percentage of fan base that quite frankly never wanted to see him drafted and certainly succeed in the first place. As shown when he got hurt and some were wanting the backup QB in Tyson Bagent to keep the starting QB job over him. That being said, Caleb would have even more pressure on him than Fields did as he'll be expected to immediately be better than Fields and lead the Bears deep into the playoffs next year. Just not sure if Caleb is as mentally tough as Fields to handle the pressure of being a young QB in Chicago. Especially a young black QB and Fields has shown he can.

That being said, I respectfully disagree. All those stats are stats and one can't ignore that. But I will say that regardless of those stats, look at those stats when they only pertain to just targeting D.J. Moore. 8tds, 0 ints, 140 passer ratting. I'm currently typing this on the fly because I'm on the train and dont have the numbers 100%. But you see what he does with one big name receiver. Now put Marvin Harrison Jr. on the other side. Those stats will improve RIDICULOUSLY. You trade that 1 pick and get a couple more later on and you draft some linemen and some more pieces, you got something cooking. You also can't overlook the fact that he has that locker room and this city around him. Regardless of how good Williams is, you bring that in and it all unravels. If Williams was in the playoffs, it's a different story, but dude didn't even play in the bowl game. Chicago wants a dude who wants to play and any cost. Like I said, I got mad respect for you. How can one compare a college QB to a pro QB? A college QB successes n college predicts n projects him to be a successful pro QB, which is definitely not always the case. Then, take a look at Justin Fields college numbers they were just as impressive going more than 12 wins. Finally, the last QB selected from USC from the Bears Cade Mcnown, how did that turn out.We are definitely going to keep Justin Fields and get Boat load and Overhaul of draft picks, but we better get a name brand ( ( Marvin Harrison) for a change.

It is completely impossible to predict if Williams is better than Fields. More often than not the #1 overall pick QB fails to produce anywhere near what he did in College. Whatever great things Williams has done in college are against college players, some of whom might by NFL starters in the future. Every great thing Fields has done as a pro has been against actual NFL starters. Fields showed real progress this year now that he finally has a real #1 receiver. I have been a Bears fan for 40+ years. I think that the Bears should pick up Field's 5th year option and use the #1 to load up on picks, especially top quality offensive linemen.

I say this without really having paid much attention to Chicago's roster. It doesn't matter who is at QB. If the team doesn't have a line and other tools around him, he will struggle. The scheme can get you a little more production if it fits the person calling the signals. Bringing in a different guy might give you some improvement, but if you don't have it, you don't have it.

By no means am I justin fields fan, nor do I think he’s franchise QB material. But a QB problem is not the only problem in Chicago. I don’t think there’s any QB in the league or in the current draft cohort that could make the bears a good team. I think they should draft Marvin Harrison Jr and beef up that OL, this would make them a much better team overall. Kick the can down the road a bit and worry about the QB next. Who knows, if you improve other areas of that bears offense fields might even shine a bit more
@A2theJ9
@A2theJ9 4 місяці тому
Rhetorical question. What matters more? A QB's stats in his first 18 starts of his career or his most recent 18 starts? Justin's rookie stats were under a different offense and different OC and he was given no first team snaps all training camp that year. If you look at his last 20 starts or so, which is what really matters, it paints a very different picture. Sure, his average pass YPG aren't very high but there's a reason for it. The Bears run the ball a lot and Justin himself runs the ball a lot. Also, last year he was working with the lowest paid WR group in the league and his #1 WR was probably a 3 or a 4 on most good teams. Let's also not forget he had one of the worst pass blocking lines last year. You combine all that and of course his passing stats aren't going to be overly impressive. Of course his overall career stats aren't going to look great because up until this year he was set up to fail. So when most of your stats are made up of games in which you were set up to fail of course your stats aren't going to be great. But what has he done recently? As someone who follows the Bears and watches every game it's clear as day he's improved a lot from the first game of the year until now.

100% truth but people don't want to look at the big picture.... If you compare Brees 2-3 year stats with JF1 2-3 year stats you'd also say Brees is a bum! How did that turn out?? @A2theJ9
@A2theJ9 4 місяці тому
@@The_AdventurousRealtor Great point. There's some HOF QBs that were actually bad their first 2 to 4 years in the league. That's not the case with Justin. He hasn't been great, but you can't point to any games in his career and say he definitely was terrible that game and they lost because of him. People never bring this up, but it really does matter. Justin has been playing most of his career with a terrible defense. Up until about week 4 or 5 of this year he's had to play from behind all the time. Last year the Bears' run defense was the worst in the league. Look at Mahomes this year. He's having a down year, but imagine if he didn't have have one of the best defenses in the league. What would their record be? What would his stats look like if he always had to play from behind? This is part of the reason his 4th quarter stats aren't good. Constantly having to play from behind when your down multiple scores and the other team knows you have to pass and your O-line is bad? That's not a recipe for success. Then factor in that until this year he's had no one to throw to? That's rough. He's been set up to fail for most of his career. Would be a shame to get rid of him now right has he seems to be putting it all together.

Fields has improved every year, while I think Caleb Williams will be a better qb, any qb will fail in Chicago- need more offensive weapons and need to bolster that line. Draft Marvin Harrison Jr. with the No 1, shore up that offensive line. With a good offseason, bears can compete for the playoffs next year with Justin Fields. If this was Caleb Williams at the end of 2022, I would have said take Caleb, his draft grade is up there with Luck and Lawrence. I still think Caleb is a great player and undisputedly the best qb in this class (much better than Maye), but there were some concerns watching his tape from this year (especially that Notre Dame film). To be fair you NEED to add his running yards to his throwing for a total. Because he PRODUCES when he runs. Since McMahon I've hated every QB they've had other than Kramer, Bagent and Fields. Honestly though I'm on the Williams kick now after watching every singe game he's played. Will be an interesting offseason.

Penix is better than both. Only 2 QBs have thrown for 4500 yards in back to back seasons...Mahommes & Penix . He's pinpoint accurate on deep passes & quick release .Throws through tight windows & timing precision

Sadly, HC Riley recklessly changed Trojan Football, which in turn resulted in placing poor oline, defense, and secondary around Caleb. Had friendship not dominated Riley decisions, CW would have won 2nd Heisman and team would have been playoff contenders. Developmentally, who has best upside, Justin 3yr NFL QB with contract, or CW, a transitioning QB with Mahomes potential? That's the question?

As a Bears fan who actually watches every game Justin’s growth has shown especially this season after getting a real #1 receiver, you can draft MHJ to pair with Moore and build more talent or draft Caleb Williams and see if he pans out which the last 8 #1 pick qb haven’t, also you have to factor in locker room fit and leadership….the locker room and team all want Justin Fields… Caleb is great but idk how he would handle Chicago media and has character concerns but is a hell of a talent

I can't even believe Stephen A did not mention that Justin Fields comes from Atlanta. He concluded that he's not in the right city. It's podcast malpractice not to mention that he'd be a decent fit in his hometown for a team that needs a quarterback.

The Bears winning five of the last seven games is an objective indication of improvement. Truthfully it’s not all been on Justin Fields, it’s because they made the Montez Sweat move and the resulting pressure they’ve been putting on QBs has dramatically improved the the Bears takeaways on defense. Caleb Williams looks like a good prospect but is he a sure thing - no one ever knows. I love when analysts call him the next Patrick Mahomes when they couldn’t even predict Patrick Mahomes being Patrick Mahomes coming out of college. If JF1 can lead the Bears to victory in GB this weekend. Keep him. It’s basically a playoff game atmosphere. It should show you what you’re looking for.

Unfortunately, he didn't get it done in Greenbay. Not all on him, but he got out played by a 1st year starter qb Jordan Love. Who's is still playing in the playoffs. It's just not good enough.

I can point to several games where Fields had td passes dropped. This is why watching the games is important and not just citing statistics. He has 1 year with a #1 WR. Fields isn't the problem and Williams (who has bust written all over him imo) isn't the solution.
@RoseCurry5

Remember last year and how bad those dropped passes were. It's the reason Poles pulled the trigger on Claypool to begin with. But they won't acknowledge that at all.

It is probably a push between dropped passes and missed wide open receivers. He missed two wide open in the Atlanta game which was arguably his best game as a Bear. Watch the all 22.

Add fields rushing, dude has been well over 225 is most games he has played. Only saying bc fields gets this team on the other side of the 50 so much so you have too. Also factor field goals and rb touchdowns. I honestly think Bears fans like this dude bc they actually watch the ganes.

I live for the day when Justin Fields proves all of the sports reporters, analysts and naysayers wrong. Fields is flawed but he is a stud. Dude is only 24 and still learning and improving. You can’t put enough value on the intangibles like leadership, hard work and character.

I would rather have MHJ and Moore with Bowers and Kmet without even having Fields than miss out on MHJ and run things with Caleb Williams with limited weapons in his first year. Bagent would BECOME a TRUE STARTER with MHJ, Moore, Bowers, and Kmet.

CW will be running for his life as a Bear's QB and it's going to be the same situation they are in now. Bear need lots of help, they need the right OC to compliment CW style of play, they need to fix the O-line, they need some weapons around him, RBs, WRs, TEs, etc. 🤔

Being a die hard bears fan has been rough over the last 3 decades. Surprisingly, Stephen A's take isn't ridiculous. The only nuance, or devils advocate, point I would make... Having the wrong HC... Having the wrong OC... Fields spent the entire year last year, playing from behind by double digits, with far inferior pieces around him. Having watched every game, I have to feel that this is the primary fault of the people above him, and the primary reason that he was forced into many many bad situations in the 4th qtr over the last year and a half, and results in bad numbers. Just my observation. And as much as I am a fields fan, and the city of Chicago desperately needs a qb, I do believe he would thrive elsewhere.
