Socialism is still seen by some as a social and political ideal. Recognizing socialism's brutal history, some argue for democratic socialism. What is democratic socialism and can it protect us against dictatorial socialism?
Dr. Hicks examines the ideas of democratic socialism and its history. He discusses how the primary focus on controlling economics and money soon slides into every other aspect of the lives of the people. He concludes that democratic socialism--especially in the examples of Italian fascism and Nazi Germany--is but window dressing, a mere veneer. Dictatorial socialism lies beneath.
For some time, Professor Hicks has been doing a philosophical analysis podcast on a wide range of contemporary topics. It has been available on a number of other platforms. It is now being offered on UKposts as well. Its mission is to “ to explain the chaos.”
Stephen R. C. Hicks, Ph.D., is Professor of Philosophy at Rockford University, USA, and has had visiting positions at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., University of Kasimir the Great in Poland, Oxford University’s Harris Manchester College in England, and Jagiellonian University in Poland.
