No wonder diamler Mercedes Benz is showing record profits year over year when everybody else is struggling to survive.

I do not understand their insistence on the haptic buttons when Mercedes has now had multiple years of feedback and I have never seen a reviewer say they like them. Baffles me that they continue to force this on us. I would pay extra for a steering wheel with regular buttons at this point.

There was also a noticeable bump in quality from W213 facelift to EQE. Still not exactly where i'd like it to be but a lot better.

Don't forget Volvo with the XC70 or V90 cross country and Audi A6 allroad. They have been in the market before any all terrain. Anyway I would get the merc. It has to be delightful with the 400d engine. I hope they are keeping it from the previous model.

21 cm with air suspension set on off road

@@Alextr951 No, you cannot change ride height in Volvo V90/V90 CC with air suspension, this is due to the fact that only rear axle has air suspension. V60/V60 CC does not have any air suspension option at all, at least not here. That 21cm ground clearance, give or take few millimeters with different wheel/tyre combos, is what you will always have. Only in the XC90 is the ride height adjustable, albeit very little. Cannot comment on XC60, no experience. In Volvos, the air suspension is usually more intended for rear axle self-levelling when towing or hauling heavy or unbalanced loads. In regards of the new E-Class All-Terrain, if the 16.5cm is normal mode ride height and off-road mode adds few centimeters, then it's borderline acceptable. If it's 16.5cm on off-road mode - forget about it, absolutely useless gimmick, might as well take regular E-Class.

They think they are so cool charging these huge prices for these high end vehicles and not even thinking all this crap is getting ready to crash (houses, vehicles, commodities) and there will be a huge inventory of all this stuff being people will not be able to make these huge payments!

The engine is great, but the transmission wears out so much power that I would easily guess 100 hp less in the Audi compared to my E400 D.

They do - unless you've never rolled too fast off a speed bump that was more vertical on the backside than you expected, you'll get a nice topout clunk from the suspension as it runs out of downward travel to keep the tyres on the road. Topping out the suspension really only happens when both wheels on one axle have to drop into a dip at the same time as in most situations the antiroll bar stops one wheel from topping out if the other wheel on the same axle is being pushed up as in when the chassis is flexed across a diagonal.

It's only for the looks. Nobody will go offroad with an E-class Benz.

Look for the 4x4 squared version of the E-Class - it's the best off roader Mercedes have made since the Unimog 😀. As for the low profile tyres - writing off the wheel as well as the tyre hitting a pothole wasn't really a thing until idiots thinking low profile tyres were desirable, reinforced by marketing shitweasels happy to sell sabotaged products knowing they'll make even more from wheel and tyre maintenance after the fact took over the market.

@@BokiXI It's not just for looks (ugly), it's Merc trying to make it appear like an $UV to boost sales. I think it is having the opposite effect. Cladding does not enhance a Mercedes wagon... looks horrible. Affluent folks won't like it.

@@EVsteve80 Ah i understand, unfortunately there is no all-terrain EV model coming in the foreseeable future. In fact there is no wagon EV planned as well in the coming years and you need a wagon to build an all-terrain model on. With Mercedes recently announcing they aim to get rid of wagons by the end of the decade i highly doubt we'll ever see a EV Mercedes Wagon, let alone an all-terrain model. Maybe Audi will make an A6 e-tron allroad as the A6 e-tron will be available as a sedan and wagon. Although be mindful of the steep angled hatch, making the trunk less usable and more like a shooting brake. Its unfortunate to see car manufacturers sacrificing practicality for the sake of looks with wagons and seemingly wanting to get rid of them all together and forcing us to buy SUVs, personally a huge fan of wagons and driving one atm.

They are all paid by the car manufacturers, one way or the other. I don't take their word for anything anymore, just looking to see how they mask the bad parts of the cars they are testing.

Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. I also bought cars with animal skin leather seats before I did my research and got to know the industry. The most important thing is: With today's modern materials, you have nothing to lose, just to gain. You achieve the same kind of luxury and comfort or even better while having the same or better durability with less impact on humans, animals and the environment. You can use fabric/cloth, microfibre or leatherette. The classic approach is using oil/plastic as source material. Overall, a vehicle contains about 300 kg plastic. A car seat needs about 5 kg plastic. So the overall plastic share for the seats is very low and it is at this moment the most efficient way to produce a car seat. A couple of litres of fuel equals a car seat basically. So if you want to save oil/plastic, rather look at consumption for energy, fuel and heating and to other car parts than the seat. Note that animal skin leather also always contains a plastic coating for durability. However, long-term we should of course find raw oil alternatives. So going further, seats can be made from recyclables (e.g. from PET-bottles or old fishing nets) or even increased share of plant-based materials (like pine oil, canola oil or start-up materials like Pinatex from pineapple leaves or Desertex from cactus fibre or the mixed-plant-based Mirum, so be seen at ukposts.info/have/v-deo/i2GSgpCcppelznk.html). We cannot change what we have bought in the past, but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.

Yes the hood is long so 6cylinder is possible

The exterior car length vs Interior space, is due to the Rear-wheel-drive architecture of the E-class (with the All-wheel-drive hardware added on), with a longitudinally mounted Inline-6 cylinder engine. The engine bay is thus really long. The Škoda should be a Front-wheel-drive architecture with a transversally mounted engine and thus like with all cars with Front-wheel-drive architecture, the interior room will be much larger than a comparably sized RWD based car. There is a long-wheelbase model of the E-class sold in markets like China, where they add another 6 inches of additional space in the rear.

The Skoda Superb Mark I was originally a Chinese market model too, where they took a Passat chassis and added rear seat legroom, because the Chinese market for large cars seems to be obsessed with rear seat space. It's still funny to see Mercedes doing the same. I don't see how 4WD will make any difference as like almost all VW group cars (And just about anything else that's front wheel drive by default), there is a 4WD option using a Haldex clutch system to engage the rear axle drive, with permanent drive to the front wheels. This needs all the same mechanical parts, namely a rear differential and drive shaft to feed power to it, as the Mercedes but doesn't impact the rear space at all as far as I know.

@@peglor the 4WD thing causes a lot of confusion. For instance, the Mercedes GLC 4Matic and the Mercedes GLB 4Matic, might sound the same, with "4 Matic" being their 4WD system. The reality is different. The GLC is a vehicle that begins life as a RWD, and then they add in the additional hardware to make it a "4Matic". The GLB on the other hand, begins life as a FWD, and then they add in the additional hardware to the rear, to make it a "4Matic". That additional hardware added to the other wheels to make it a 4WD, is not robust enough to allow the vehicle to drive for extended durations using that hardware, and is just intended for short duration usage. The key difference is in terms of driving dynamics, where the RWD based 4-Matic will always have a rear-biased power split, with the ability to transfer more to the front, when needed. The FWD based 4Matic fitted onto the GLB on the other hand (like with all such cars like the Passat etc that are fundamentally FWD cars), will have a bit of hardware that goes to the rear to convert it to an All-wheel-drive (AWD). The FWD vehicle converted into an AWD, will primarily drive like a regular FWD car, with most power going to the front-wheels, most of the time, with ability to transfer more to the rear, when circumstances ask for it. The 4WD vehicles that started life as a FWD, will invariably have more interior space, with less dynamic handling characteristics and vice-versa for vehicles that began life as a RWD. In the above example of the GLC/GLB, the GLB is a cheaper and more downmarket product, when compared to the GLC, but has more interior room than the GLC.

Does this mean that all the Mercedes 4Matic systems use a clutch the engage drive the the secondary wheels and don't have a center differential? This isn't a bad thing, apart from for track performance as interestingly 4WD with no center differential give more stable handling on loose surfaces, which in the real world is a lot more likely to save a car from crashing, whether it's front or RWD without 4Matic. The big problem I've heard about with the initially front wheel drive Haldex systems was the first version of the design used a completely mechanical system that used the speed difference between the front and read axles to engage the clutch to the rear axle. Great for pulling away in slippery conditions like on snow and ice, but at speed it meant that when the car started to understeer (As a front wheel drive), the system would spot the front to rear axle speed difference and engage the rear axle, turning the handling from predictable understeer into sudden oversteer, leading to quite a few crashes. This was one of the issues that made the first Audi TT dangerous to drive hard. Modern Haldex systems use electrical power and decisions made based on data from the car's sensors to engage the clutch to the rear axle, so the car pulls away as a 4WD by default and the system can anticipate understeer and feed in rear axle power to stabilise the car before it's lost control, which makes for all the safety benefits of a full time 4WD with savings in cost, fuel consumption and weight.
