The Good bad and ugly of this storm ... I am most impressed with how both of you are coping with all of these things that need fixing and my heart goes out to both of you, You definitely have the homesteading spirit .. I believe in both of you and your strength and knowledge to pull you through this mess ( there has to be something that can make the cob water proof) Both of you are in my prayers, *A little research the lime plaster is or was a good choice you just needed a waterproof layer too like beeswax, that's the most natural solution ... I am heart broken to see something like this happen to you !

I’m sorry you had the damage to the dome and that valve house collapsing, hopefully it won’t be a big of a job like you’re expecting. Keep all the good work both on the build and with your animals.

If you fly over Devon in the UK it looks greener than surrounding areas due to all the rain the County has. Houses made from Cob are common, and all have a hard roof that fully covers the walls and overhangs enough for drips not to a problem. Some of our houses are over 100 years old. Having a bell bottom on it doesn't help as it slows the decent.

Starting top down instade of bottom(sill) up is a mistake. When it dries out it will open voids. Bottom up has compression on your side. Cheers. Keep going. You can make it work eventually.

Jim I have 2 thought for you. # 1 could you mix up a batch or 2 of cob and fill in the gap to the eaves until you make it down that far with the lime plaster. Or put a layer of plaster right on top of the eaves 6" tall. That should help with water cascading down the rest of the dome. Also when you know a big rain is coming remove the plywood platforms. Or install a 2x4 under the plywood next to the dome. maybe the water will not hit the dome on the way down. #2 On your valve box . I don't remember how deep it is but could you bury a barrel or 2 stacked on top of one another. A round structure is much stronger than rectangle. Keep up the great work. You two are very hard workers. ❤🇺🇸🤍🇺🇸💙

We all want to know how much water went into the cistern after a rain like that. How are the frames for the solar panels holding up?? Anything you might do differently? Are you thinking of upgrading and expanding the solar array in the future?

Uvie is fun to watch playing with the canister. Wow, that's a crazy storm! Wow, an inch and a half of rain! Nice that you put Uvie in the back of the Tahoe. She looks really happy. Great job patching the walls with cob. Good job getting the pipe attached better for the IBC tote. Too bad the valve box fell in on itself. Don't get trapped in there with that mud! I'm glad that the plaster and rocks up on the top did wonderfully! It'll be so great when you close up that gap of the eaves with the dome. Your dome house sure looks beautiful! You guys are such hard workers. Adding the screen to those pipes was a great idea. Not only bugs but snakes shouldn't be able to get inside now. Great job GDP. Thanks for this video Jim and Jess.

@@ourselfreliantlife glad she found a better home. Have you guys tried swapping scented items, like a dog blanket, between the dogs? It helps for getting cats acclimated; not sure how it works for canines. Especially if the new scented item is dropped somewhere they can approach it, and when they do, TREATS!

These videos are great. Incidentally, I love that you show us the dogs and their playful antics. And your background music is great. I didn’t really understand why you did all the wood and pipe cutting off the structure. I’m sure it makes it look nicer but wouldn’t it have been helpful to leave it alone for climbing or standing on the top later?

I try to watch your postings but bc I don't see them all, I can see the jumps in cob damage to the dome that maybe you don't see looking at it every day. I'm not hooting on the work, I'm congratulating you on how well it has held up considering the rains and wind so far. I am impressed with the mix Jess has come up with for the final coat of the dome. I am looking forward to you showing how much water you have in the large tank now. The design of your capture system is awesome.

Hi guys where you are looks a lot like Cyprus with the mountain range and the earth house you are finishing off was common many years ago across the island. My grandparents from both mum and dad's side all grew up in houses made from earth and hay. I plan to build an earth house one day. God bless you both and the pets too!
