Every artist you named is signed by, therefore “ controlled “ by a label, major or otherwise. They have constraints put upon them creatively while still expected to produce financially. Ren, on the other hand, creates what he wants, how he wants it and when he wants it. His last full album included songs that he wrote a while ago and the 2 songs he wrote in 2023 ( Seven Sins and MG3).

Longevity of artists - I suspect one thing is, artists that sign are only given a short time by the labels to show they are “profitable”. If it doesn’t like they will be huge, then the label loses interest once they’ve got their money back from the initial investment. Then the artist stops getting the label support and promotion and, they’re done - eaten up and spat out by the “machine” (or money game). I think there is also an element of artists being “hungry” at first, working, honing things they are proud of, and then they get signed, that becomes the first album and does well - but by then, they’ve used their best things they’d worked on…so the second album is them trying to replicate it. And they have to try to fit that in while touring, doing promo etc - and also their lifestyle and source material is suddenly different - their life is a whirlwind instead of having time to reflect and create. So the 2nd album suffers…and the labels and the audience think “ah, a flash in the pan, move on”. The music industry is tough and ruthless is the short version :)
