I have so much respect for J. Cole. I think he is staying true to his values bc he has ALWAYS said “they act like two legends cannot co-exist.” We need to make room for each other to expand, grow, and evolve in Hip Hop so that the genre as a whole can model and give a complete picture of the phases of life. Hip Hop does not have to be so contentious to attract respect, fame, accolades, and support of fans. The three of them have different styles and each are necessary to the culture.

Making better music, being better at your craft should be the way to prove yourself, not lame childish disstracks. The art of rap is not the art of dissing. I get its part of hiphop, and if there is real conflict between two people its great to solve it via a battle. But for Cole to respond to Kenny, a guy he clearly likes and respect, is fake and stupid. Love that Cole is admitting his mistake and tries to rise above it. I got nothing but respect for Cole. I love the competition aspect of rap, but if you've never been about drama, i don't think it's mandatory. Especially if you're only like half dissed. J Cole spoke from his heart when he said he kinda got pressured and was conflicted. You literally hear it in the lyrics. Even so, he still released a diss that was more lyrical(def not the toughest, but Cole has always had bars) than most and did it in like a week. Most rapppers would look weak doing this because they spend 99% of their raps acting tough. Cole has always been a thoughtful, mostly non-violent guy. It's not weak to say you don't want to beef with a friend.

It’s just too late for the apology now and claim humbleness. If he had that killer mentality, it would’ve been one of the greatest battles we’ve ever seen with how lyrical these two are.

No! I'm a Cole fan. But, Cole kept talking big throughout features - which is respectable. If he always kept all that dominance talk away, then, fine. But, he clearly wanted that. This is just double-speak. I like J. Cole. But, that's not it.

The mature thing would have been not responding at all if that's not how he truly felt. Kendrick was going at Drake and Cole caught a few strays. He didn't have to respond but he chose to do so anyway. Good on him for acknowledging that his response was immature though. I suppose acknowledging immaturity can be viewed as a form of maturity.
