According to some theories with a few extra things thrown in from myself. If you read the gravestone, you can actually see some of the story on there: The story is about a great Chinese General (0:50 ofc)who fell in love with the Princess, but because of circumstances, their love was forbidden. So, the king sent men to kill the General and instructed that his body be buried in an unmarked, forsaken grave in the swamp, never to spoken of again. The Princess could not bear the pain of the loss, so she ended her own life in hopes that they would meet again in the afterlife. Unfortunately, she was given a royal's burial, far away from her beloved. Years later, four of the General's most loyal men managed to locate his grave (0:12). In order to restore the once broken bond between the Princess and her love, they performed a sacred ritual to summon their leader to walk among mortal men once again (0:19). They told him what had happened to his beloved. Although proud of his men for their unwavering loyalty, the news brought intolerable pain in his heart, as if the sun had lost it's light and would never shine again (Jackson's expression and the set's lighting at (0:59). He warned his men "Don't waste your love, just let it last. Because once it is gone, it is never coming back." (0:59). But, his men insisted if he could be resurrected, so could she. This brought much welcomed hope in the General, and the sun had returned to warm his heart (1:10). His men prepared themselves and their General for the journey to the grave of his beloved, so that they may perform the ritual (1:16). Upon their arrival (1:58), the General realized that what he wanted could never be. If he and his beloved were to be reunited in life, they would be disgraced. Instead, he wished to be put to rest with his love, to walk in eternity with the one that was taken from him, but such a task would require a great means of power and strength, more than he or any man could possess. But, his men loved their General, and would be loyal to him until death and beyond. So, the four soldiers allowed their leader to harness their energy using a similar ritual to the one they used to summon him (2:05). This however came at the price of their own lives and places in eternal existence which they humbly and willingly sacrificed for their leader (2:25 the way the soldiers fall backwards in their ritualistic, peaceful pose). Upon finishing the ritual, to his amazement (2:39), there before him... ascended his resurrected love, even more beautiful than he had remembered her (2:44). The General explained to her what had happened and what he planned to do. The Princess was reluctant to return to eternity (her expression at 3:00). They could be one in love in life, not in death. But, he comforted her saying, "There is a hundred ways to leave a lover, but why live mortally only to naively await death to separate us again? I won't wait a minute longer. I'm the only one that you need." (3:05) The General embraced the Princess in his arms tightly and tenderly (3:13) to be sure that they would not be separated during the journey to the afterlife. "don't waste your love just let it last", "tell me what makes you stay?" because he is ready to be in danger for her, "it's a final curtain call but if you're ready I will give my all" = he knows he will die, and she will face punishment if not die too. - still they eventually died separately (he goes through the forest in hiding to find her grave), and his/her subordinates sacrificed their lives (drop at @2:26) to temporarily resurrect them and let them be together at least in afterlife. Edit: also she is wearing a red dress, red gown is traditional for brides. And the tree her grave is under has orange leaves signifying the end of their story is close, they dance and sink under ground as the leaves fall.
