Very good game
i wonder if anyone will ever pass ken jennings?
comment below your thoughts
james, if youre watching, you were an awesome player and you very much deserve that 2 million dollars. Emma was a good player though, and nothing lasts forever.

Exactly. He's a professional sports better, which may seem like a fun, leisurely activity and potentially lucrative, but I can assure you (them) it's not. Very few succeed at sports better (as a living). This man knows calculation, risk management, odds, etc. and was hedging his bet.

His wager was absolute perfection. Exactly what he had to do in that scenario. People who think he gave up are so stupid it’s unbelievable. By wagering $1,399 he locks out the third place guy if he misses. He needs Emma to miss regardless, so why let the third place guy back in?
@overdrive_srs

James did NOT lose on purpose. Everyone will be asking why James bet so little, but it was actually genius. James knew that Emma was going to bet enough money where if he had bet everything, she would still beat him by a dollar. The highest James could’ve earned, if he had bet his entire total, was $46,800, and she won with $46,801. That’s why James bet just enough where if Emma was wrong, and lost that money, AND he was wrong, he would still have beaten the middle contestant by $1. Even if Jay had bet everything and was correct, the most he could’ve won was $22,000. If James was wrong, he would’ve won $22,001.

@ChristophProbst
@ChristophProbst 5 років тому
@@nitrofreak1992 - He wanted to win. He wagered a small amount because he plays by the odds. James knew that Emma would want to protect her lead by betting the maximum she could to ensure a win if he also got the answer right. The best that he could hope was that Emma would miss the final question. If she did, the he wanted to bet the smallest amount it would take to overcome her score.

True dat. I'm kind of glad I grew up in an era when they didn't hand out participation trophies or sugarcoat the fact you were going to lose a lot during the course of your life, no matter how much you tried not to. It may have sucked to hear at the time, but it was an incredibly valuable life-lesson to learn. It ranks right up there with Kirk saying "damn it Bones, you're a doctor. You know that pain and guilt can't be taken away with the wave of a magic wand. They're the things we carry with us; the things that make us who we are. I don't want my pain taken away. I need my pain," for profound life-lessons summed up in a single quote.

The bet at the end makes perfect sense. So basically he knew if he bet everything and she did- if they both got it right- he was gonna lose anyway. But he knew if he was wrong, and she was wrong; she would lose cause of a large bet. His $1399 was to counteract if they guy in third place got it right in that scenario and would end up w 22,000 (cause he would still have 22001). Really great strategy

that's honestly what i think sealed his fate....but the fact Emma was hungry and trying to beat him or have him fight for his victory if he had it....didnt help either. He was am ambitious player and she knew she had to match him to beat him

His bet was simple: Beat 11,000 player if he doubles his money to 22,000 plus champ misses answer, champ loses 1399, goes down to 22,001, he wins by 1 dollar, if lady with lead misses question....he knew she would bet enough to beat him if he doubled his money and she did. His only option was to make sure he had more than 22,000 if lady new champ missed question. He didn't want to lose....did it right.

Had James still been on the show exactly 1 week from this game, he would've been halfway to tying Ken Jennings for the longest winning streak. He was only $59,000 away from breaking Ken's record for the most amount won on regular Jeopardy.

His loss occurred 15 years and a day after Ken Jennings' 2004 debut. Julia Collins lost on June 2, 2014, Exactly 10 years after Ken debuted. Ironically, Ken, Julia, and James all had huge winning streaks on anniversary seasons (Ken in Season 20/21, Julia in Season 30, and James in Season 35)

If James bet everything, he still would have lost by a dollar and he knew this. He played the best possible strategy here. Betting low gave him the best odds of winning because he knew if she got the answer wrong, his wager would have been enough. He didn't throw it. Another words, James wasn't betting on her wager, James was betting on her incorrect response.

I heard that he lost because he was a bit distracted from finding out that Alex Trebek had been diagnosed with cancer and that threw his game off a little. I believe this is the first episode they taped after Alex shared his diagnosis with the world.(Remember the episodes are taped weeks before being aired) If you'll notice, James is wearing a cancer ribbon pinned to his shirt and during the contestant interview part of the show, James gave Alex a get well card that his 4 year old daughter made for him(Alex).

Finding out that the host of the show you’ve been on for while has advanced cancer can throw your game off a little and he wasn’t his usual game playing self. I doubt that he threw the game because he wouldn’t when he was so close to breaking Ken Jennings’ record for most money won on regular Jeopardy!.
