Kudos to McDonald, you cannot ask for more from him, coming back from serious injury to make this final. I remember his UCLA days when many of us thought he would struggle to be powerful enough to be successful on the tour- but he’s beefed up his serve and is so damn consistent with his flat forehand now. He’s always had the all court game so I look forward to seeing how far he can go.

Well, Sinner is a beast from the baseline and when he's playing well, like today, it's difficult to get anything past him or even elicit a putaway ball, as he's extremely strong off both flanks. McDonald played the match of his life and still ended up short. We've seen in the past, the way to beat Sinner is variety and to mix things up and prevent him from controlling the rallies. Either that, or you'll need someone who hits the ball harder than him and there are not many players who can do that.
@serbianbeast1733
@serbianbeast1733 2 роки тому
@Doge di Amalfi Yup, Berrettini off only the forehand. Sinner's backhand (one of the best in the business) is far superior. You can also include Zverev in the mix (when he's feeling it)

Who cares about ATP 500 titles if you don't perform well in Majors? And he didn't beat a single top 10 player. Talk about a big fish in a small pond. Tsitsipas beat 4 top 10 players in a single tournament at his age.
@filippodelledonne2090
@filippodelledonne2090 2 роки тому
@@NG-wx4kw The comment above was surely a wrong comparison but also your point is not very accurate if you want to give more credit to Tsitsipas as a promising youngster. Stef beat 4 top 10 players in Toronto when he was just a few days older than Sinner today, since he would have turned 20 the day after the final, so they had pretty much the same age (their birthdays are just 4 days apart), but at that age, Tsitsipas had 4 wins and a 4th round in Majors (against Sinner's 8 and a quarter final), they both beat 5 top 10 (Stefanos 7 times and Jannik only 5) and Sinner had three more ATP titles (3) than him (0). Adding the fact that after Toronto, the Greek was no 15 just like the Italian today, to me it seems like they had similar results, but of course, today Tsitsipas is no 3 and Sinner is 15th so clearly 3 years of age make a huge difference in one's own career.

Well done to Sinner for winning his first ATP 500 title. Great match that. Very impressive from MacDonald all week. He’s certainly top 50 if he can keep this going and has an injury free run. I love to see him volleying like this, it’s super difficult on hard courts for obvious reasons but he is an excellent volleyer and really knows his way around the net, unlike a lot of today’s players. That extra dimension along with being a super athlete can stand him in good stead. As for Sinner, we all know where he’s gonna end up. Such an exciting young player. Formidable forehand and an unbelievable attitude.

Mackie can be a serious problem to anyone outside the top 3. Almost beat Dimitrov at AO 2018 and Garin at FO 2021. Made the 4th round at both AO and Wimbledon. He will have his breakout tournament soon

Way to go Mackie that just shows you the margins are so tight these days, only a few points here and there between top 100 and top 20. Man that just didn't used to be the case. Sinner is a monster, he ticks every box. Mackie really stepped up last few weeks. I hope this is a rebirth for his career and attitude. Always worked hard now he believes.

Congrats Mackie, what a fighter. I was expecting Sinner to win given his ranking and form. Mackie can improve on his serve and avoid long games on serve, especially the second serve. Man I was shaking for him whenever he missed the first serve. Congrats on the run and wish you all the health

Sinner suddenly looked so young when holding the trophy. I don't have any stats on this, but I think he's a great serve returner. I also had no idea how talented McDonald is.

Right now it's looking like Sinner might be the one to start raking in GS once Djokovic gets done (probably still a while to come). Will be interesting to see who of the young players can hang.... maybe Tsitsipas, Zverev or Medvedev. These three don't convince me yet, unfortunately.

Where are all the people calling Sinner a mindless ball basher now? Perhaps they realized that losing multiple matches in a row is part of being a young professional. And him losing doesn't mean his game is one dimentional. His strokes are extremely lethal, and in the modern game, strokes are top priority over volleying, touch, and slicing

If a coach was able to advise a player between every point of a match and that player sincerely listened to everything their coach told them...then they would end up playing like mackenzie mcdonald. I swear he plays as if he's got a tactical coach in his ear the entire game. just amazingly clean tennis and he's got every tool in the book. maybe he's not exceptional at any one thing, but he's at least "pretty good" at everything you could ask him to do on a tennis court.
