When you put it that way it sounds right but getting the take down counts for a lot as long as you stay on top. Neither of them had much of a ground game and striking was about even. The deciding factor was who initiated the takedown and ended up on top.

If you think about it from the perspective of the fighters; it has to be totally worrisome considering that each judge can have/ or has different criteria for judging the fight and you don't necessarily know how each one thinks. So during the fight you (the fighter) would have to be worried about how the scoring is being done. Open scoring should be more of a thing. that way they at least know after each round what they need to adapt to or modify to win. Instead of worrying if they are doing enough of this, or are they doing too much of that, or even if the opponent is doing enough of something to be winning. It has to be totally distracting considering you always hear that damage trumps all. When in this fight where the damage dealt didn't win. In a fight that was pretty convincing in my opinion, so it's just pretty upsetting considering that somebody's entire career can get derailed because one judge decides he wants to be special, or different from everybody else there's a clear set of rules and it should be followed to a T. That way each fighter knows exactly what the criteria consists of and how it's going to be scored.

How? They both landed. The takedowns and control time were the most significant actions of the fight.
