Joe Dassin isn't French. He was born in NY City of American Jewish Parents.

I also don't understand French and I am so glad to hear an interview of him in English. It is another interview in English, in Greece, but it is blocked on UKposts. It can be seen only on Facebook.

Han existido y aún existen hombres con grandes cualidades que consumen droga. Pero hay que destacar los aportes y no las debilidades. Por lo menos JOE DASSIN nos aportó con su calidad como cantante grandes e inolvidables momentos de alegría

But he was an American and this never changed. He has written five novels during the time he was a student at University of Michigan and all were written in English. For one of them he received a Hopwood award, in 1958.
