Love is the definition of boom or bust for me. His ceiling is immeasurable, but his floor is unbelievably low. Some of the throws he made in college made no sense. Difficult for him to look past his first read and he has an issue with not being able to spot linebackers underneath. I also watched 4 full games of his a few days ago and I didnt see him throw the ball away once. Seems more prone to throw into double coverage than throw away. But his arm is a thing of beauty. I think it will all come down to how much he loves the game and what kind of coaching staff hes working with. Great video.

I wish Love well and all, but I agree. Right now he imo isn’t ready to be a starting QB, and i’d even go as far to say he’s dangerous. He has a bad habbit of leading his receivers towards opposing coverages with his passes which could result to guys getting hurt worse then normal. I hope he gets drafted by a team like the Saints, where he can learn from an established QB, and make improvements to his game.

People forget Love lost a lot of guys. If ANY QB loses his ENTIRE OL and pretty much all of his offense save for 1 WR, ofc they'd fall off a bit. I'm high on Love but I do agree, a year or two to sit and learn would be best for him. I would LOVE to see him in Pittsburgh or Tampa Bay, although the Colts could be interesting as well (I like Rivers better than most and think he'd be more open to actually bringing up Love to take the job within a year or two or three more than Brady or Big Ben would be). Also can we stop with the football IQ thing? Mahomes himself literally admitted he couldn't read defenses until this year. He was just playing on pure feel and instinct. I'm not comparing Love to Mahomes as far as overall talent but I can see some similarities as far as being relative unknowns with high ceilings that can make incredible throws.
@youweechube
@youweechube 3 роки тому
I agree, watch the first play that is criticized in this video, Love can't make this pass - he has a lineman about to smack him at the moment the commentator is wanting him to make the throw. He would not get the throw in properly, most likely it would be broken up by the on rushing defender likely causing a fumble or at best a throw into the ground as he gets hit during his passing motion. Love recognizes this and thus scrambles and makes a good recovery pass downfield. It's clear to me this o line pretty much sucks and left Love making hurried decisions.

A lot of people want to compare Love to Patrick Mahomes, but that’s unfair, and honestly their college film isn’t all that similar. They both made wow throws, sure, but Mahomes was more advanced in his pocket presence and also used his athleticism much better than Love. I think a fair, and also realistic, comparison for Love is Jameis Winston. Winston makes some great plays that makes you want to believe in him, while at the same time he also just does dumb shit all the time. And as you do a great job explaining in this video, so does Love.

Though people sometimes just look at physical abilities and likely availability to play. E.g Herbert vs Tua. I guess the issues had in college probably mean a team will get lucky. Quarterbacks who life nothing but the game might be able to develop mentally. "When he puts it all together" could happen very consistently. For example,if he goes to the right organisation with the right staff, he could become a much more consistent player

Regarding the play you are examining at 4:30, it seemed to me like Love was getting pressure at the moment the left side receiver was getting open. As such, he lost the chance to make that pass and adjusted to make another play.

Agree to disagree, but that's what makes film analysis/scouting so fascinating. It's completely subjective, two people (or NFL scouts) could sit in the same room and watch the same play and come away with two completely different opinions.

Is it just from what I've seen or do most teams out of a trips set on stick run the flat route with the number 3 receiver instead of the number 2 ? He does get baited by a great defensive call I just feel like the concept inn ran much better the other way. Great Video

Thanks a ton Bailey and thanks for the comment. I don't believe I've seen stick run with 3 to the flat, that's going to limit the spacing you have for #2 to get open on stick and give the defense a smaller area to cover

It'll be the same story w/ Love as it is w/ any project QB. It's clear from the coach's tape that he doesn't have an exceptional understanding of what he's seeing pre-snap. On some plays, he recognizes what he's seeing, and on other plays, he simply doesn't. Of course, there will be some staff that sees his potentials, and says, "We can coach this kid up." Maybe he'll pick it up, and maybe he won't, but the point is, this happens every year. There are kids who don't have the feel for the position required, and yet, some coaches feel that they can impart the wisdom necessary to teach this kid what he needs to know better than other coaches.

4:09 Or, it's disguised to look like a quarters concept, and the defense successfully confused the QB which resulted in a busted play. I would credit the defense for giving a confusing look. It's also possible that it was a look the QB hadn't seen before, so he didn't understand what he was seeing. Can happen to any relatively inexperienced QB, including those in their first full season in the NFL, as we saw a few times with Jimmy G in 2019. So some of Love's errors may be simply inexperience which hopefully he will learn from. That said, he does seem inconsistent, and he does have both a high upside and a high downside.

They left for Texas Tech. Now, the USU Aggies are left with a coach (Gary Andersen) that works out if the Recruits work in his favor, like his first stint in USU (When he won the WAC in 2012, in his 4th season), but if they don’t, he’s pretty much fucked over (His awful tenure in Oregon State) Henry Colombi may work out. He may not. If so, in his senior year or 2021 they can be a 8-9 win team. Recruiting is a 3 horse race in Utah, and obviously they aren’t getting the top recruits because us Utes (Utah fan, BTW) are looking to be a consistent Top 25 threat in the 2020’s, so they get the best out of recruiting, and BYU and Utah State are in a dogfight. Though Utah State may get the Upper Hand because BYU extended fucking Sitake. That mediocre motherfucker that BYU fans one week say “That’s our coach”, the next call for his firing 😂 Back to USU, they should be a decent mid-major team in the 2020’s. I just don’t think they’ll be able to replicate the success they had in 2018 in the foreseeable future.

What we are not saying here is that the change of coaching staff and loss of key offensive players was key in drastically affecting his game as it would any other person in his position. If he had the same coaching staff and offensive weapons in place and STILL had the inconsistencies and so forth as you mentioned, I would understand your case. Good coaching and a strong team is everything and when that is lost and transitions are made to inferior coaching and less talented players, this will almost guarantee the result of any QBs game being off until the team redevelops. Under good coaching and a well developed team, he has the best chance of meeting his potential and thriving in the right environment. Green Bay is a good environment for him to do just that.

@Kookkie Bird Speaking of fans who only watch their own team is pretty ironic while making personal assumptions about a player. lol I'm very aware of the Bears QB situation when they took Trubisky, and no one will convince me that they thought Mike Glennon was the solution. I think Jordan Love deserved a little more context as to why he's inconsistent and whether he can grow. Being from Utah St, he didn't get the type of coaching that the P5 teams can give, but that just means he wasn't coached the X's and O's as in-depth, which is more promising than being taught them and not getting it. In regards to taking hits, he'll take them perfectly fine, but no QB wants to get hit because that's how you get hurt, and Utah St's OL was horrendous. Also, the non-throw early on should've been made, he was looking at it, but it was fairly bang bang as the Defender was coming through right up the gut. So when we're projecting into what he will become, this kind of context matters. Oh, and it was misleading when you said the coaches got fired, because the HC got hired at TT (which you mentioned), and new coaches will often bring in their own coaches. You made it sound like they got fired due to performance. I think it would be beneficial to put down and distance in the future as well.

@5:15 yeah he def missed a TD ... cause cover 4 has man principles. Usually the safeties will take the #2 wr and that leaves the post wide open. I’m sure in the NFL they’ll test decision making. So there’s no choice he’ll get better. Sink or swim. If he’s serious about the game he’ll look over his mistakes and you’ll see it in his play.
@trayray7891
@trayray7891 4 роки тому
Can he learn how to properly move in the pocket in a 3 5 or 7 step drop, can he work on his timing and predictability on throws in all levels of the field, can he learn to read a defense on many different coverages and then make audibles when necessary, can he keep turnovers down? Right now hes just a prospect, would benefit him to sit behind a veteran and learn the system and the speed of the game for atleast 20games/1-2 seasons. If a team needs a qb now and needs him to start right away, he may have a difficult time. Needs to sit back and learn.
