Aaron Wolf is my personal favourite and an inspiration. In fact, I started judo at the begining of this year thanks to him by watching his videos on YT. You know the ones with Donmai where he goes to highschool training and beat the crap at every student 😂. Even though its in japanese and I dont understand a word, it is still a great watch. Before discovering him I was a poor Bjj guy with Zero stand up game. And now, one year in the making, I'm shit standing but at least I have an orange belt! (Oh, and your highlights of his Uchimata and Ouchi are crazy good! Thx for those, watched them a ton) I really hope he's selected for the Olympics. He may not win it, or even medal, but at least we get to see him more. Hopefully we get more ippons to watch from. Then he'll retire and will get more sweet judo content on YT, and even maybe an instructional! I really liked his yoko otoshi/lat drop and his yoko guruma during this Tokyo GS. And thanks for your content!

As there is a big break after this Saturday, do you plan on making some judoka ippon videos? I think you could make really entertaining video of Tushishvili's highlights, if you go through his contests since let's say 2017, you'd find some really incredible stuff.

Correction: 3:30 - ko uchi gaeshi 3:41 & 4:23 - sumi otoshi (it doesn't need to look picture perfect) 4:07 - uki otoshi

You're right that 3:41 & 4:23 are the same. I'd still label them as sumi otoshi because the technique is about throwing your opponent backwards using only your grips. Like I said, they don't have to look picture perfect.

In regards to nameless techniques...I think it's more purist when scoring was based on diminishing control, ippon for a square delivery to the back, wazari for side to back, Yuko for bum to side, Koka for bum to ground. Ippon of the year...the heavyweight who countered a counter with a kata garuma/seionage technique..it was flow state, found and at heavyweight with that strength...and I've never seen that before, all adds to perfect judo and at least a candidate spot. Loving your narration btw. Chr from Aotearoa

Good point about the Japanese, they are traditionalists to the core, but in this day and age with the ban on leg grabs, there needs to be adjustments and Japanese don't adjust too well. This "name the technique" issue is only used to fit narratives, not everyone can pull clean techniques like Abe.

Interesting theory about the drop Seo especially if you factor in Nomura. I’m toying with the idea that maybe Nomura was more fundamentally sound than the next generations. Or. Perhaps we’re seeing a change in the work ethic and modern judokas are chasing easier techniques.
