Our mother cat disappeared, leaving 3 kittens (she was advanced in years) and our mom tried to take care of them but newborns, it was a job. So she let my 4.5 year old brother choose one to nurture. The only way to keep them properly clean was to just wash them. Being so little my brother was not overly gentle with his kitten and as a result it was the only survivor (they need frequent, vigorous massage to digest and pass waste). Between the half-drownings and the mauling this cat was ready for anything, loved water, and would ride around in my brother’s bike basket as floppy and relaxed as a bean bag.
