This is the exact problem with the sport, and specifically lightweight and welterweight. After contenders fall short in one and even two title fights, they feel entitled to continue fighting within the old ranks of the division, rather than resoldifying their contendership by taking on the upcoming talent. Holloway and Whittaker are model contenders in this regard. Gaejthe, Porier, and Chandler should need to fight the Fiziev’s, Gamrot’s, Turner’s, Tsarukyan’s, and Ismagulov’s of this division rather than fighting themselves over and over until they get unwarranted title shots.

Yeah Poirier I feel like more then chandler or gaethje has earned the right to only take big name top fights because in his past 10 fights, he’s only fought champs, or former champs other then Dan hooker and Jim miller. So his resume is solid asf. But now if Poirier goes out and loses to chandler, yes your right. But no, there is zero fight for gaethje that he hasn’t already had with another old top guy, he needs to fight fiziev.

I get what you’re saying. However, the match making is still far far superior to Boxing so it could be a lot worse lol. And once a fighter establishes themself as a name it makes sense to only fight other contenders which will bring in some decent money. With the way UFC pay structure is, imagine someone like Justin after building a solid career and having so many crazy and fan friendly fights loses a few and then gets starched by a dangerous high risk, low reward fighter and throws away all that hard work.

Yeah I’ve seen numerous interviews where he gets asked a question and then mid sentence he just pauses for a few seconds, stutters a little bit and forgets what he was talking about and then asks what the question was again. Kinda similar to Nate but that’s how Nate has always talked but Justin didn’t always talk like that. He has definitly taken a lot of damage. His style got a little better and wiser but I feel like he was a more dangerous fighter when he was reckless and just going forward but yeah it has come at an expense. He’s always been a warrior.

We have to remember, both Justin and chandler were throwing bombs recklessly to knock Charles off his shoes and in the process turned it into brawl and left themselves open. Dustin and Tony were calm for most part and Charles couldn’t knock them out and had to use his grappling to submit or win via decision. As much as those knockout were great, I don’t see Islam throwing haymakers or acting stupid like Justin or chandler to knock Charles out and grappling against Islam is not in his best interests - Islam going to be patient with his striking and grappling and in the process Charles will get frustrated and make many mistakes, more than usual, giving Islam openings and that’s why I think Islam will win.

I've always had the same opinion of Charles Vs Islam and it's that Charles has a kickboxing/mua Thai approach for 2 reasons: 1 his BJJ is better than all his opponents so he is not concerned about being taken down or the attempt of a takedown. 2: he relies on his crisp and neat punching, knees and kicks. however fighting a dominant grappler, Sambo master and expert submission artist he will have to adjust or he will get taken down every time he tries coming forward. I am not ruling Charles out by any means but reality is the odds are against him. I have noticed that Americans are very emotional in their thinking and even the majority American UFC fighters keeps voting for Oliveira for his impressive 11 fight win streak and his come backs against his last 3 opponents but that means nothing against the skill set of Islam. It will really bring out the best 155 pounder in the world

The flipside is Islam has enjoyed the benefit of opponents being fearful of being gotten ahold or taken down to the point they're even afraid to fully commit to strikes. He will not have this usual advantage vs Charles. Even getting ahold of Charles in the clinch to get the takedown can subject him to getting tagged.

Second one was more of a delayed knockdown where Charles probably wanted the fight on the ground but he got up and put the pressure on Justin right away. He definitely got rocked but not really hurt.

And I saw Gaethje run through him and I knew he hit like a truck. Tony before his downfall made a career of leaving guys butchered and bloodied. And a lot of fans loved to take the pictures of his past opponents including him. It came back to him full circle.

Gaethje gets rocked very easily. He eats shots to give them and his fight IQ is non existent. HOWEVER… Justin is gonna leg kick McGregor as hard as he possibly can. If McGregor still running that wide Karate stance, that’s bad news. I’d love to see that fight.

The Tony fight was impressive at the time but looking back now I blame the outcome on Tony's style and approach to that fight. He wasn't putting enough pressure and was getting hit too often. He got exhausted by khabib and Charles used the same approach

@@cwyatt6066 oh I know, that part wasn’t a direct shot at Justin more so at fighters who are inactive & complain about the pay. Look at Kevin Holland, dude signed in 2018 & already has 18 going on to his 19th fight with the organization. The more active you more, the more known you get which grows your fan base, up the rankings & into main card slots where the big bucks come in.

@@DenseROOTBEER everyone is aware of how to build yourself as a fighter. UFC pays fighters less than 20% of the revenue. Nothing you say changes that. That is just robbery. NFL is 50%.

From 12:15 it sounds like he deep down believes Islam will more likely win but doesn't want to admit this so he says he doesn't have a pick yet lol. Gaethje knows he has a better chance winning the title if Oliveira is champ than if Islam is, so he's hoping Oliveira catches Islam with something.
