Guro Doug Marcaida demonstrates the uses of the karambit blade. The karambit is an exotic curved blade used in both Indonesian and Filipino martial arts.

Idk mate, I'd like to see his technique at work against a resisting opponent. Literally all his moves are done at a faster tempo than his opponent. And the fact he needs that to be effective while being armed and his opponent isn't kinda speaks to how bad of a martial artist he is or how useless the karambit is.

@JonCampo919 місяців тому
@@chukyuniqulI can tell you haven’t had any knife combative training. It’s not the same as empty hand. There’s no way to train against a “resisting” opponent, as your practice partner isn’t actually getting cut. All knife combatives (at least the 3 that I’ve trained extensively in) all involve “combination” techniques, as shown in this video. A “resisting” opponent that isn’t actually experiencing the cut progression will probably “win” and make the instructor look dumb to other people that are dumb. But when your meat is getting sliced literally against your bones, you will be the moving in the most compliant way imaginable.
@chukyuniqul9 місяців тому
@@JonCampo91 I love how you completely miss the fact that my reason for saying the opponent is resisting isn't that "they don't give opposite force" but that they LITERALLY MOVE IN SLO-MO compared to the knife-wielder. I get that a knife strikes faster than a fist because a knife cut requires less force, but that doesn't explain how one guy takes like three actions in the time the other guy does only one and barely reacts to what his opponent is doing, which is pretty fucking different from what someone would do when faced with a knife-wielding opponent.

I wanna correct this. The history and theory of the karambit was never really to kill. It was more of the tool like a curved scalpel. When it was 1st made was more like the backup blade for if your main weapon was out of range to render the opposition's limbs useless for you to take control. Yes, it can kill as well as any other blade in your repertoire, but it's main intention was to make your standoffs more flexible. Just something I wanted to say about the karambit.

Based on written history, kerambit originated from Minangkabau (Indonesia), then was brought by Minangkabau migrants centuries ago and spread to various regions, such as Java, the Malay Peninsula and others. According to folklore, the shape of the kerambit was inspired by the claws of the tigers that roamed the Sumatran forests at that time [2]. Weapons in most parts of the archipelago were originally agricultural tools designed to sweep the roots, collect rice stalks and threshing equipment. However, unlike kerambit, it is deliberately designed to be more curved like a tiger's hoof, after seeing pets using their claws, this is in line with the Minangkabau philosophy which reads Alam takambang to be a teacher. Kerambit eventually became famous through the Southeast Asian trade network to countries, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Thailand. History books in Europe say that soldiers in Indonesia were armed with kris on their hips and spears in their hands, whereas kerambits were used as a last resort when other weapons were exhausted or lost in battle. Kerambit looks very manly, because it is a short distance ban which relies more on courage and martial skills. Minang martial arts warriors, especially tiger silat warriors, are very adept at using this weapon. The Sulawesi Bugis warriors were also known for their expertise in wearing kerambits. Currently kerambit is one of the main weapons of silat and is generally used in martial arts.

@neutatamayo83653 роки тому
@@haventgotaclue2328 yeah, covid is just as lethal as a common cold with recoveries in the millions, its just a scam big pharma companies do to rip you off on vaccines costs, health and other sanitary paraphernalia- if you're still reading/believing this, you're as gullible as a goldfish and should go back to preschool. Covid19 is a real threat maybe not to you, but to, elderly people and those with weakened immune systems. You, and others with likened minds such as yourself could literally kill your grandmother with a cough to her face making her suffer a horrible death gasping for air. Get off your sheltered ass and come into an ICU, educate yourself.

What always amazes me, and surprises me, is how many "weapons" got their start as humble farming tools, the world over. It may be a tool, It may have a humble origin, It may be intended for agriculture, But most importantly; It will keel.
@dieptrieu65643 роки тому
Weapons are expensive. If you are a farmers( which most people are back then), then farm tools are the best things to fight with. Since the world was very dangerous back then
@GeckoMTGA3 роки тому
Well, the reason for that is probably that in history it used to be poor people like farmers who were oppressed by wealthy land owners and those were the only weapons they had access to. hell, historically speaking, that is how most martial arts actually began the world over, totally independent from each other...
@clgmafnas3 роки тому
Yes. It is just a tool. The mind of the individual wielding it is the weapon. Case in point, I bet if you gave Doug a hairbrush, he would find a way to kill with it if his life was in danger.
