Editing all of these skating routines leaves me with a lot of opportunity to learn more about the music in them. To be honest, I didn’t know much about singer/songwriter Peter Allen, or anything about “Boy from Oz”, which is a jukebox musical based on his life, featuring his songs. I was primarily interested in the fact that “performed by Hugh Jackman” came up when UKposts flagged this video as containing copyright music.
Which lead me to searching more about “The Boy from Oz”. Did you know that Hugh Jackman won a Tony starring in the first musical from Australia to make it to Broadway? Yes, that is actually ‘The Wolverine’ singing the second act of this routine. Or that Peter Allen was one of the first well-known Australians to die of AIDS, in 1992? That doesn’t seem so long ago…
Thank you, Katarina and Jeffrey, for choosing this music to fit the “Musical Theatre” requirement of the 2019/20 Rhythm Dance, and giving us another opportunity to enjoy Peter Allen’s legacy.
