WTF.. keyboards are easy to steal. Hide your stuff in heavy, or immovable, hiding places like the interior of a broken down, terrible looking rusty AC unit, etc. No one will steal junk. They WILL steal a good-looking keyboard that's easy to just pick up and put in a bag >.

Just get a big black box, fill it with cash, and leave it on the coffee table in your living room clearly marked "ALL MY CASH IS HIDDEN IN HERE" and no one will touch it.

i always use the numpad its easier to type numbers and use the operators atleast for german keyboard layouts

This seems cool, but at the end of the day there are thousands of places you can hide shit that no one would ever take the time to find, and all of them are easier than removing your keypad.

For someone not familiar enough to type without looking, you could really screw with them by just taking out several of the keys and rearranging them.

Or you can hide your small, thin, flat, tiny pieces of paper in 2,309 other places in the house that nobody would bother to look.

Note: this doesn't work with mechanical keyboards. Which is probably a good thing, because you wouldn't wanna ruin a thing as beautiful as a mech.

Yeah, no. Not going to sacrifice the numpad. Not as long as you can hide those things inside ballpoint pens, or under DVD covers, or inside the spines of hardcover books, or...

Seems like a lot of effort for not much in return. Might as well just gut the entire keyboard and use it as one big stash, take out all of the insides, then just glue down a big sheet of card that will keep the buttons pushed out and open it from the back with a single screw or with neodymium magnets on each corner. Then just put it where you would normally put an old crappy keyboard, I have about 5 floating around the house in cupboards, under my bed, on top of wardrobes etc... Like you said, who would steal them.

Cool Idea! would be kewl if you could figure out a way to rig up a mechanism under the modded numeric key pad so if you were to say press and hold the Del key on the numeric keypad and then press a certain set of numbers, it would work like a combination lock.
