Just ran across Kiwi SDR... using it like an SDR alongside a non-sdr transceiver makes it fun. You can even record your QSOs from the receiver you have selected. This is a fantastic tool. Thanks for the video Josh! 73

I'd love to be able to have conversations with you about this topic. Finding someone who knows anything about direction finding using TDoA at the unclassified level is pretty awesome. You obviously know a lot if you're doing direction finding. Good video!

Impressive. Tried in with a longwave transmitter in Ireland on 252khz. Located it 10Km west of the transmitter location. Not bad going considering the receivers available to triangulate with.

The deviation could be any thing that frigs with the time. Its all about exact to the millisecond difference to the comparing receivers. GPS works to 3 feet, but its time stamp is all controlled and its line of site rf ( from satellites ). Pretty cool system, really neat.

Thanks for your great video's. I am learning a lot from you. I have a question, I hope you may have some insight on. What is a good solar charger for a Baofeng UV5R, with extended battery? I'm building a radio network for a group of people up in the mountains. Thank you again.

Watched your video about using DF to verify a station was jamming other Cuban stations. Which I had saved the link to the website that you used. Today I was studying for my Calc class. Tuned on the radio to take a brake. First thing I heard was a station making comments that people from a particular ethnic group needed to die. Then there was playing of Taps. This had to have been done intentionally. Wish people like that were located and reported to the FCC.

Very cool indeed, I don't think it works on VHF or UHF sadly as that would be cool to catch the phallus heads messing with repeaters...

What a great system! Looks like it is all HF band, right? Would be cool if there was some VHF coverage - mostly to locate a repeater since some repeater locations are not shared openly. Just a thought...

Yes VHF TDOA is pretty slick. Aircraft trackers seem to do well with this technique, using "MLAT" to describe this geolocation method.

One or two of those SDRs may have been in the skip zone of WWV, receiving only backscatter from several directions. Results are quite good if you use receivers getting the signal on one hop.

I don’t understand, if I choose one person’s SDR and move the tuner, do I move the tuner in his home? If we are two users moving his tuner frequency in two different ways simultaneously, would we create a conflict for the software? Thanks for this vid!!

Hi mate. On Callum’s channel we are getting confirmation within a mile or less on signals. It is a very interesting tool and great fun. 👍
@AG7SM
@AG7SM 3 роки тому
could it be that you are getting bounces off of the mountains there, and that's confusing the position? Since they can't spin a beam around they are likely using the signal delay between the stations, and reflections could really mess with that. But I'm just speculating.
@HamRadioCrashCourse

Sure. I mentioned that on the video. 👍

I have a Baeofang but do not have my license yet. Are there frequencies on this radio that I can use without a license?
@HamRadioCrashCourse
@HamRadioCrashCourse 3 роки тому
Not really. Using the baofeng on the ham frequencies without a license is illegal. Using a baofeng on frs and gmrs frequencies is illegal since it’s not type accepted. See my video on transmitting on frs and gmrs for more Information.

Cool idea that is easily defeated with repeaters that are fed broadcasts via cellular, satellite, or wired data from like a high speed Internet Service Provider. Considering the amount of money that goes into this hobby it is entirely plausible for folks to stream the pranks to remote locations so that if someone were to try to sniff out their location they'd be spinning their wheels.
