The journey of going from a woodworking cutting board hobby, to business, to building a manufacturing type wood shop in 1 year here in Alaska. This is more than a shop tour, this is the building of a shop and a business from day 1. A documentary of sorts.
Production of this shop consists of cutting boards, butcher blocks, tables, countertops and more.
Dec 27 2020- The video that set things in motion to go from a once a year hobby batch of boards in my tiny shop.

We started producing product in the new shop early Dec 2021

Hi Kris and family, I'm following your story from New Zealand. Watching this video was a very emotional experience for me. I am 76 and have successfully owned my own businesses for over 60 years. I've never worked a 5 day week, or an 8 hour day...7 day business weeks and 12 hour days are a normal part of my life, and I've enjoyed every minute of it and had so much satisfaction building a life on hard work and high business standards and values. You should be very proud of what you've achieved in such a short time. You obviously have a great deal of woodworking and organisational skill, please work just as hard to become a great manager of money and an amazing marketing man. I have lost count of the people I've known over the years who were very talented at producing things, but useless at operating their businesses...with failure as an end result. And by the way, you've got the cutest little girl on UKposts.

I want to tell you something coming from a man in the trade some 45 years, and I have set up 3 shops in the process: "You have been doing a phenomenal job of filming along with all the other things you have had to do." Many other people will have no idea of the logistics you have had to do and attend to just to get this far. NO, you are doing a GREAT JOB OF WORK AND FILMING. BRAVO KD "IMPRESSIVE"

Kris, im a chiropractor and specialize in only treating patients in detox centers. I mainly see young kids between ages 18-26 and always show them your page. I think its important to show them how someone can take a hobby or passion and turn into into a career. One in which youre the boss, owner and make your own schedule and control your future. My patients all love what you do and are impressed by how far you have taken your business. I wish you were in los angeles because i would have loved to bring them to see what you do to help inspire them to find whatever it is that makes their hearts burn and find out how to take it to the next level and stop using drugs. Keep up the great work. Ill definitely be sharing this video as well

FYI ive watched so many of these videos that i motivated myself to start doing it as a weekend hobby to help me de-stress so im learning all about how to do cutting boards, epoxy projects and charcuterie boards as well. Ill hopefully try my first project soon.

Love the content and showing all the details behind the scenes. The small details are what we want to see, because there are a million videos about wood working. But it's the journey and the emotions that make a good story. I hope some day they can figure out how to make wood working tools that don't weight 447 pounds. I just got a 12" radial arm saw, and 7 other radial arm saws. The 12" saw has to be completely disassembled to be moved, but that's the beauty of a radial arm saw, they are very easy to take apart. I think there is some merit in a tool being light enough to move around all by yourself, or at least some way of being disassembled and moved. Tools that can't be moved, are basically useless for a home hobbyist. The trailer hitch dolly was smart!

Man, this whole video gets me so pumped up. I quit my job 8 months ago to go full time on my carpentry business and lately I've been getting a lot of custom woodworking projects. I hope to see a fraction of the success you've seen in the passed year. Congrats man!

All I can say is just wow! Your work ethic, your skills, your sense of organization, your eye for design, your ingenuity, and your crafting are all just over-the-top amazing and then the fact that you took a small hobby and turned it into a full fledged business with savvy is beyond what I have seen before! Good job and good for you!! I pray you will have a wonderfully successful business and still have time for that precious family!! I have NO wood skills at all, (I’m a retired art teacher, artist, Children’s Church teacher, and tinkerer), but have just enjoyed your videos so much!! Some folks relax at day’s end with a movie, I watch your videos!! Thank you so much for sharing all you do! Just gorgeous pieces you create, but getting to watch you from start to finish is such a huge bonus!! My favorite part of this video? Those rolly things you made to put all your heavy equipment on so you can move it all around! Genius!!

Amazing sir. Absolutely great story. I recently turned my hobby into just a bit more. Felt like I was going backwards going from mostly furniture to cutting/serving trays and the like. Endless linear glue ups. After a few days of it I realized that I’m in my favorite place doing what I love and people’s reactions to it makes all make sense to me

Kris.... Once again your skills are on display for us. What an amazing inspiration you are for so many people. Your craftsmanship is remarkable, your work ethic is astonishing, your drive is relentless, and your ability to share it in the videos is fantastic... To top it all off, you are a gentle giant of a father. Your daughter hugging the band saw was priceless. Your videos are as good as any documentary .. the 6 month wait for one is well worth it. You deserve all the success you are making for yourself. Whenever anyone tells you that you are "lucky" to have what you do, just know that luck had nothing to do with it. Your hard work, skills, time, effort, bravery and loving support of your wife is what produced all that "luck"....can't wait for the next one. Congratulations on all of it

I have really enjoyed watching your progress, I started watching you about 2 years ago and have been fascinated with your process. I would like to start and stay small building cutting boards. I'm pretty old so ill only do limited batches but the most important lesion I have learned has been sanding. I have seen so many boards that just are not smooth. You taught me that quality pays off. Thanks and good luck in the new shop.

Bravo Kris! So happy for you and the family, and glad you could bring us along on your inspiring trip to set up your (expanded) business. I could relate to your small shop, and your videos were an inspiration to make better boards and see how your work flow made more sense than mine. Keep up the good work!
