I’m crying. Lana here is pictured here with a Victoria Holt novel. Victoria Holt was one of the many pen-names of mid-20th century English writer Eleanor Alice Burford. She was incredibly prolific and wrote across several genes, including romance, suspense, mystery, drama, and thriller. I had no idea she was still known in the 21st century. I highly, highly recommend the romance novels she published under the name Victoria Holt. While some are not the objectively *best* works of fiction (the last Holt novel I read was a little rough around the edges plot-wise) her writing style is immaculate, and she specializes largely in gothic romance. Tbh they are just fun novels to read-one, because you want to uncover the mystery; but two, because you wanna see the developing romantic tension between the characters. Holt’s novels embody the gothic romance…and it’s my honest to god guilty pleasure reading them. But if you don’t take them too seriously when you read them, you’ll have a great time. If you are at all interested, I recommend “The King of the Castle” by Victoria Holt. I’ve only read two of her romances so far, but the King In His Castle left an indelible mark on my adolescence. For better or worse lmao. Now I have a silly nostalgic love for vintage paperback romances--ranging from good to mediocre lol. TLDR; I think it’s funny she’s pictured with a Victoria Holt novel…that’s it lmao.
