Lang Lang wowed tourists in the ‘City of Love’ on Valentine’s Day 2019 as he gave a unique album launch concert in Paris on a boat cruising along the Seine, performing pieces from his new album, Piano Book, such as the French classic ‘Clair de lune’ by Claude Debussy.
With ‘Piano Book’, Lang Lang goes back to his first love - to the pieces that made him want to become a musician in the first place. “I dedicate this album to my wonderful piano students and all my friends around the world who love the piano as much as I do.” Rediscovering the most popular and accessible pieces written for learners and lovers of the piano, this album is a journey of inspiration, of discovery, fantasy and learning. ‘Piano Book’ gathers together many of the miniatures that generations of amateur pianists have grown up with. Lang Lang holds them in the highest regard, believing them to be classics in their own right. He wants to encourage piano students across the world to fully appreciate them.
Enjoy the video of this famous poetic piece along the landmarks of Paris by night.

As long as he spends a piece of his soul playing it, it's fine. Either listening or watching the gentleness & precision of his touch, it's evident. I guess it's not just placebo, the difference of execution, the investment, is having an effect on us, like it or not. Though that's just a dazzled opinion of a pleb, utterly unrelated to the classical musical world & instrument playing.

This is the most smooth interpretation I have ever listened to, its like a steady stream flow of water, it even seems like you don't know whats coming next after each note, eventhough you have heard it hundreds of times, some people play it section for section and you can clearly distinguish the transitions, which makes it not so smooth to listen to and just feels like text book playing, but Lang Langs takes it to a whole different level.

I think Lang Lang said in one of the interviews that Clair de Lune is one of his favorite pieces. When asked why he answered that it contained such longing, so vivid and so deep. "It makes me long for death ..." As much as I understand that sentiment (As more and more of the people closest to me depart this realm for the next, I can't help but wonder, Alas!, why am *I* here, still???), "work in this mortal garden, we must," for as long as our sojourn shall last. Questions are inevitable, and, believe me, I have myriad questions. (Fervently, I hope the answers will come ... someday.) But as much as it might seem that despair thrusts itself inexorably upon me, while questions are inevitable, I have learned that despair and hope are CHOICES. I encourage you to choose hope. @@8ballpaul "The while they celebrate in minor strain, Triumphant love, effective enterprise, They have an air of knowing all is in vain..." Quite sad, isn't it? To be so blessed but so separated from that through which true value springs. The dulcet harmonies Debussy offers as he paints a vision to be remembered also give hope that minor is merely major waiting for its moment.
