Teachers are told that we can't defend ourselves if we're attacked by a student because it's child abuse. I teach several 19 year olds, these students are old as hell and out of control. I'm not going to be on the internet getting my ass whipped. If they hit me, it's on.

Just a couple of days ago the state of TN passed into law, and the governor signed, a bill for teachers to be armed in the classroom. Supposed this teacher had been armed. I’m sure other states are watching to see how this progresses. If I had a kid in public school in TN this would be their last year in the TN school system because an innocent kid could just as easily be hit accidentally by a fired weapon as the targeted student. We now have armed warfare in the classroom.

Studies have shown that being exposed to racist comments, racism and discrimination contribute to mental illness. As such, a teacher may very well snap when called a racist name by a student. That will take away his sense of respect in the classroom. Others may also follow suit.😢😮😅

My son was a teacher here in Dallas. Educators run in my family. But this generation will learn several needed lessons in the worst way unfortunately. This is why i edicate my grandkids at home. Dallas ISD will not tell lies to my babies and teach the self hate or that we are sub-human nor inferior.

I believe some people especially the people that are MOST vulnerable to disrespect need to carefully choose their occupation/jobs. I hope they consider the teacher's actions as self-defense and give him some leniency. The student was crossing the line by using racial slurs and disrespecting the teacher. The school should implement solid disciplinary measures for students who disrespect authority or engage in bullying. The same standards should apply to teachers who mistreat their students. I am concerned about the lack of morals and values in the younger generation.
