How many asylum seekers should Western countries welcome. Millions? Problem with African and Asian countries is that parents are of the mindset that children must provide for them. This is the root cause of migration. One mother fled Sudan and mentions her 7 children are nowhere to be seen. 7 children seems like women are baby making machines. Parents must take responsibility for their children don't have so many when you are on the bread line

And even if there is a job in the city, it’s not enough to support the whole family (parents, grand parents, brothers, sisters.....) no wonder many will have to go to Europe or wealthier country. If their gouvernement start to impose fewer children or number of children is based on income.... not so many will risk their life for dying into the sea.

Khadijah, you have said it all. I am actually an interpreter for people who seek asylum in The Netherlands from Senegal and The Gambia and the stories they share are really hard to listen to. For me, this documentary is actually where my work comes full circle - the fact that I get a glimpse of what happens to those they leave behind. Life overseas is literally not a solution to their problems, however, it's the way the western world has marketed themselves for decades, right? (When we talk about African countries, some still refer to them as third world/emerging, but that only speaks to the power dynamics tbh) I truly believe that our local governments should be creating more awareness programs and implement sustainable solutions, because at the end of the day, the problems are still there. It is so hard, because it is so complex!

There are also some things that weren’t translated at all but they were small things that are again not easy to translate and don’t take away from the story so they did a good job overall

It’s easy for westerners to acquire visa to your countries because : 1) your country need tourism so any rich people from rich countries will get visa easily (as they will spene money on locals = helping economy) 2) the westerners have money so they won’t depend on your gouvenement for anything and they won’t try to overstay their visa (their countries is already rich) Why it’s hard for africans to get visa to rich or western countries? 1) Because not many africans can pay or live in rich countries as the living standard is too different....the majority of africans are poor, only rich africans get visa easier. 2) Too many africans depend on those western or rich gouvernement to survive (welfare, free shelter, free healthcare....) as many overstay or are illegals. And they want to avoid that.

It is not only the decision of the host country, but a decision of your country. Nobody would stay, and there would be no country left if everyone was free to go.

Our country is still a "poor" country. Yes ressources have been discovered these past years only. It will take time to benefit from it properly. And that's not the most important.
