I wanna bring the spotlight to mixed kids who were raised as “white”. Not learning about their heritage or ethnicities, not connecting to their cultures, not being taught how to care for their hair, not being taught their languages, and therefore not learning how to navigate the world as poc. There’s obviously a conversation to be had about colourism and how a lot of mixed people will be intentionally or unintentionally racist/colourist, but we should also talk about people who literally weren’t taught how to navigate the world as poc. My partner thought they were white. They are not. They are visibly poc. They are so visibly poc I had NO idea they thought they were white or white passing. It’s just now that they’re really understanding they’re poc. They are seen as poc in the world. They’ve had an entire part of their identity they’ve been ignoring for decades. The white side of their family would fetishize them and they have little to no connection with their poc side. They were treated and raised as just “white but weird”. And because they have no connection to their poc side they just thought that was “normal”. We need to talk about this, because it’s also applicable to trans racial people (people adopted by someone of a different race) who just weren’t taught about their heritage or how to navigate the world as poc. There are so many poc going around the world genuinely not realizing they are poc or what they means for them. Before anyone asks, the reason we used the term poc and weren’t more specific is for two reasons. One is privacy, and the other is they have so much internalized racism they don’t want to “claim an identity not for (them)”. They are afraid of claiming their identity because they don’t wanna make others uncomfortable because they feel “too white”. This conversation is long overdue.

Not all dissociative disorders are systemhood. ALOT of conditions (like depression and adhd) include forgetting things/dissociation as an extremely common symptom. You can have a dissociative disorder and still be a singlet. Hell, even nt people dissociate. “Highway hypnosis” is a thing for a reason. I say this because I’ve seen people forget they put a song on a playlist or forget they ate their last ramen and all of a sudden (without any real research) go “oh im a system!” And completely ignore any other condition that might cause forgetfulness or dissociation. Self diagnosis isn’t assuming you have a condition after one post online. It’s months and years of research.
