A true artist: Paints this lovely little work of imaginative beauty. Me: Smears pain on an egg-shaped canvas in pretty much the same amounts and colors and thinks, "Okay, I believe I can do this." Rips piece of foam from an old sponge and starts gently dotting white for the clouds. Uh, well, they look more like Yeti poop, but okay - maybe when the rest gets touched up a bit... splatters stars with an old toothbrush... so what if one of the splotches looks a lot like an octopus having a seizure? Keep going, I tell myself. Moon. I try to make a stencil like the one in the video and of course the paint smushes under the edges a bit, making the whole thing look like a drooling, sideways mouth. Ugh. Surely the island will be better, right? Yeah, no. More like a rusty cast iron skillet with no handle and gobs of chocolate dripping off the bottom onto the yeti poo. Sigh. Invested now, I keep going. The pan is now coated with what could easily pass as toxic green mold mixed with dead algae. Great. Ever watch Cartoon Network's "Adventure Time?" If Princess Bubblegum got turned into a ghost, that would be my lighthouse. The little attached entrance building almost looked like a little building, but you couldn't pay me enough to try walking in the front door. And now the ghost princess looks like she's wearing a clown-striped gown with misshapen black buttons going down the front, a red beret, and has jaundice. Maybe I'll get the trees right. Well, the little building just got eaten by one of them (which is probably for the best), and the lighthouse/clown princess is missing most of her left side but mercifully, the greenery covers what had ended up as a brown-stained crotch. The water? Rapunzel at the age of 95 has let down her white hair. As for the palm trees highlighted by what should have been a lovely yellow beam of light looks more like two star-nosed moles poking their heads into the picture, only to be sprayed by a hose full of urine. The boat must have sailed swiftly away in terror... All of which makes my already deep admiration for WOW art growing even deeper. I love this painting, just like all the other incredible work by this genuine artist. I am now going to turn my canvas over, glue heavy cardboard into it, paint it purple, and use it as a drink tray. Argh.
