i'm late to this song but it definitely hit me right in the center of my childhood pain. Feeling othered by everyone but also desperately hiding and surviving; being wild to the point of self destruction because maybe you have a little bit of a death wish when part of you already feels like it's dying in the dark. I know how much I fasted, prayed and cried every night begging God to take this away or kill me instead. Being a Christian, suicide was out of the question, so my only choice was to beg God to do it for me. But after all that, I am still who I am. This is why I am so angry when people say being gay is a choice. Why would I, a nigerian conservative at such a young age, choose to go through that?

just cried to this song, and decided to write a 50 page essay... I am bisexual, but lean really heavy towards the gay side, basically exclusively gay for romantic stuff, and bi but lean gay for sexual stuff. I didn't know that until after I got out of high school, but I only went to one high school dance, it wasn't even my prom. I always felt like I was broken because I could only experience sexual attraction (towards women, I hadn't noticed my obvious-in-hindsight attraction towards guys yet), and had literally 0 desire to do anything romantic, despite being obsessed with romance as a genre for basically my entire life. I went to that one dance, and despite not even knowing my sexuality myself, I literally cried in the bathroom just like the scene in this video. Seeing everyone else be happy and close, and realizing that I both desperately wanted that level of closeness, yet couldn't actually envision it or feel it, It just hit me that day and I lost it. I now realize that I had missed the incredibly obvious, glaring, gigantic signs (I fell in love with 2 guys, and had smaller crushes on like 8 through middle and high school, and 0 girls, yet didn't realize at the time that I was even doing that, I just thought they were really close friends or something despite feeling different from my other close friends... idk how I managed to do that... I had a friend as my tablet's wallpaper in 7th grade so I could look at him and think about how cute he was every time I used it... how I didn't question back then idfk). It took me graduating, having no money and transport, living in the middle of nowhere and about to move across the country to put me into a really dark place, which is where It finally hit me like a ton of bricks just how damn gay I am lol. and then I spent months trying to suppress it within me after opening the floodgates, until a single day where I looked in the mirror and thought "Either I process this, or I will not be here in a year.", which led to me finally accepting myself. This journey is far from over. I came out to my parents (who weren't like... accepting but they also didn't kick me out or punish me so I was lucky enough that I am fine with it... mostly), and my friends (actually accepting, at least my best friends anyway :3), but still have 4 siblings (One is Trans and I'm 99% he will accept me, one is far-right christian and idk how the fuck I plan to tell her, one is probably gonna be fine, and one is regular christian so maybe fine but maybe not), and my entire extended family. this isn't an easy route, but I just hope to finally find the happiness I have been seeking... that's all I want out of life.
