Those engines were used in a fair amount of on-road equipment from box trucks and city buses, to the Dodge Ram pickup trucks. For my day job, I drive a school bus with the exact same diesel engine (maybe different HP and torque numbers) so I know that they’ve become quite common in different applications for on-road use. Perhaps finding a used Cummins ISB engine from a different application could work to swap out the bad one in the bus.
@josephbugaj8149Рік тому
@@JessandJake I actually think you two getting a bus with a Cummins engine was a good idea. You’d be able to get some parts at a regular auto parts store, like a head gasket and other things. Since the base engine (meaning the block and the head) is the same across applications, Getting parts associated with the cylinder block and cylinder head should be relatively easy in the long run. My bus is a 2006 IC CE200 with the 6.0L V8 diesel and I have gone to the auto parts store to get certain parts because the engine is basically the same as to what was in Ford heavy duty pick up trucks made around the same year. It has actually saved me quite a fair bit of money.

I’m sorry to here that there worth thousands I worked with a mechanic that was retired and rebuilt my busI enjoyed it it was a Perkins motor it was a gas and fuel setting the valves was A pain we got it fixed then there was something about the steering there was a bolt broken in it I have to use an easy out to get it out dam hard job but I got it back thanks to the mechanic we changed springs turned them over a lot of things this is while I was in Yulara nt
@tnc7399Рік тому
I would say, don't put an engine yet. Build it up but not have it as the money pit is it. Busses have hundreds of thousands of miles on them carrying hundreds to thousands of weight daily.

Look for a used engine from a junk yard. Sometimes you can find one that is cheaper than a build and doesn't have a ton of hours or miles.

@JessandJakeРік тому
Interesting we will look into that thanks!
@MinutemanOutdoorsРік тому
Its really not that hard or expensive to change the real main seal but frankly you can get a used cummins 4bt or 6bt diesel engine for under 6k in excellent condition.
@midwestoenr4905Рік тому
You could prolly find one that bolts in too the bus might be a dog but it’d be cheaper than 25k
@crazyd1377Рік тому
Just never give up guys. Look into a cat motor, it will work hard for you and they aren't that hard to fix. Keep your heads up guys!!!
@lustfulvenganceРік тому
Man you got to get somebody that knows what they're doing as a mechanic! When you're trying to start it in the previous video and it was dragging halfway through cranking that's because you spun a bearing and when it finally did start after they fixed the rear main and you heard that intermittent squeak that was because the bearing was grinding into the crankshaft journal because it spun in it's bore! I'm a professional diesel mechanic, I can tell exactly what happened here: 1. It had a rear main oil leak, filled the bell housing full of oil. 2. You kept driving it with it leaking oil and it ran out of oil and then spun a bearing. *If* and this is a big if the crank journal isn't too badly damaged you might be able to get away with just replacing the bearing and the rod and cleaning up the journal with some emory cloth
