XFCE is my go to DE. I don't think it gets nearly the amount of love it deserves.

Yes absolutely. Try cinnamon in mint os once. It's like combination of all good things from all the DE.

Which distro do you use? Solus XFCE Beta is available now, that should be a good option for XFCE fans since Solus is rolling release and very stable and fast 👍

@@Aku-Signal - I use Mint. My use case requires long term consistency so a rolling release is out of the question for me.

@@Maxume Depending on which software packages you need, Solus might have everything you need to use. Linux Mint would require reinstall of newer versions. And upgrading to newer versions can cause bugs. Hopefully Solus keeps going. It will eventually adopt advanced features from Serpent OS. The way Solus does rolling release is the way forward 👍 Try it on a Live USB or on a dedicated partition on a spare laptop! Edit: I gave the 13th Like to your original comment above 😅👍

I use Peppermint OS, which uses XFCE. I made it look more modern simple by changing the icons in "Appearance" from default to "High Contrast"

I use Debian stable with Xfce it's great .GUI: simples ;ligth and stable.

I prefer GNOME due to a wide range of accessibility options provided out of the box, like a magnifier or screen reader, ready to use without setup.

I've played around with a lot of DEs and WMs, but always come back to XFCE. With a bit of tweaking and extra themes/icon packs, it can be really pretty (without choking my four year old Chromebook).

Im long using KDE. but then tried xfce again and damn. I forgot how comfortable xfce is. it's just feels so good to use it 😭😭 I'm just hoping that there are more xfce customization video

I started to use Linux Kubuntu (Ubuntu with KDE plasma) five months ago. Every minute on this desktop environment is a pure pleasure! Looking at your video now I start to plan some day to try XFCE. If someone could advise which version of Linux is lighter than Ubuntu and have good drivers for nVidia GTX 1060.

Xubuntu is the xfce flavoured ubuntu. It has the same driver support as ubuntu. If you want to try something else I would suggest linux mint cinnamon edition. It also has nvidia driver support. If you feel adventurous try arch linux. It will be much lighter but harder to setup drivers. But arch wiki is best documentation among linux os.

@@tuxify Thank you very much! I will try XUbuntu for sure. The only thing I'm wondering is the Fedora have drivers for nVidia at some video I see the Fedora is faster than Ubuntu for Input/output operations and wonder to try it as well.

I just switched from using XFCE for about a decade to KDE. XFCE is very nice, however atm it's pretty outdated and even tho development does continue i don't think it will ever catch up. Wayland support is getting closer but realistically it will probably take another 2 years. And that's probably just basic support, stuff like VRR/HDR/fractional scaling wil probably take even longer. KDE is already doing all that stuff right now. Also imo it works best with GTK2 applications, but outside from xfce/mate it's really not used anymore so it has become more of a niche really. GTK3/4 is more for tablets and i hate the looks. Qt apps are mostly fine tho. But hey if you don't care about modern stuff and just want a lightweight and very customizable (much more then KDE) desktop, it's still worth it.

The advantage of KDE for me is custom keyboard shortcuts. While most Linux DE's have such functionality, KDE Plasma takes it to a whole other level including being able to back up and restore easily! Ctrl+D = Dolphin file manager Win+k = Kdenlve Win+W = Libreoffice writer Wind+G = Gwenview on my preferred image folder Win+9 (ZX81 users will understand) = GIMO etc, etc... Try it. Productivity SOARS with no loss of screen space. Also blows Mac and Windows users away. And, as I say, such can be done under other DE in Linux and I do think it's something more users should 'get into' rather than dockers and hot corners and the like which require mouse movement and wrist ache, as it were. If you find custom keyboard shortcuts works well for you then Plasma is your special friend!

I like all three. I used KDE for a very long time, but just recently I switched to gnome for the better integration with email/calendar/contacts. Other than that I'd still prefer KDE, so customizable and so many options to make it work like you want it to.

KDE user here, and I just love the customizable options we have with it. Used to love Gnome back in the day when I was experimenting with Linux, but since I jumped ship from windows, I found that KDE caters for all my needs and has quite a few cool apps that comes with the DE that really makes thing's easier and smoother to use, hence my productivity has improved. Keep up the content bro 🙌

KDE for me. Mostly because the whole suite of application serves all my needs: Kate, Kwrite, Spectacle to name a few. Also, KDE works seamlessly with variable refresh rate monitors/TV mirrored under wayland.

XFCE ❤, Fast, uncluttered, highly customisable If you love old skool simplicity XFCE rocks. If you love all the bells and whistles go for KDE. Gnome is somewhere in the middle. But it's your choice, there is no 'best' desktop

using WM (spectrwm) ... but if i have to rank ... then: XFCE, Plasma, Gnome ... I like the GTK-Toolkit but i dislike Gnome ... on the other hand i dislike QT but i like Plasma

i am laptop computer is Fedora KDE. i am old years is worked Unix, VAX, DEC, Solaris, etc. I am not GNOME. I am tried work is XFCE.

KDE -- Too saturated and internally awkward. XFCE --VERY limited and feels horrible to use. GNOME - Quite nice and the only good choice of the three.

Of these 3--- KDE HANDS DOWN!!!! Although-- after many YEARS of distro-hopping-- I've come full circle back to where I started-- to LMDE6 (MINT with Debian base for those that don't know)... and LOVE it... ALTHOUGH I also run SPARKY LINUX-- debian based with KDE..( I miss my auto - tiling in the mint distro)..

Of the three, I have found KDE to be preferable. For me, XFCE and Gnome are awkward, visually off-putting, and clunky to use. I'll probably try KDE/Plasma 6 when it comes out, but I'll almost certainly go back to Openbox for everyday use. To each, their own.

I've used GNOME for a long time. However lately I've switched to KDE for the first time and immediately fell in love. It's been a brilliant experience for the last couple of months. Thanks for the video, just subscribed 👍.

FOR ME---- make that clear- FOR ME--- gnome is NOT efficient and just gets int he way-- it has the option of great AUTO- TILING usiing the pop shell-- but heck- if you have great auto- tiling -- you don't nEED all the bs "workspaces" and all that crap... it's just ueseless and gets in the way.. - but then- after years of TRYING it atleastonce a year-- I HATE gnome-- it's G-arbage!!!
