I watched an interview he gave where he was asked why he performed so badly in the London Olympics (getting knocked out in the 1st round) where he was expected to become champion. He replied that on the way to the airport to go to London his team car was in an accident with another vehicle. The passengers in the other vehicle were a newly wedded couple and they were taken to hospital. He said that he was so worried about them both that he was unable to focus at the London Games. He added that some things are more important than judo. This tells me that the guy is a legend both on and off the tatami. His contribution to the sport will never be forgotten.

please stop telling the narrative "never won an major titel / missed out the big ones" i can't hear it anymore. he wo more medals and titels than 99% of all judoka and is quit simple the most spectacular fighter of the last decade. such a unique fighter as lipo dosen't need the olympic or worlds gold to be the greatest. talk about his admirable sportmanship and legacy as a legend of this sport.

well i was there in rio when he won the olympic silver and man i can tell you the victory ceremony and medal walk was one of the hardest things to watch.

When i learnt the turnover that Liperteliani does, I learnt that is was called the "korean roll". But I cant remember any koreans using it so I dont know why we called it that lol.
