I think that the long horse will fail, seeing as it may be solitary, but it may be able to access dreams of animals, or perhaps other Trevor Henderson creatures beyond humans. The long horse is also speculated as an "angel", and will refuse to do harm. As you said, the short horse is a "failed experiment", the short horse may try and attempt to attack the long horse first instead, most likely biting due to it having a full horse head, unlike long horse's missing lower jaw. At this point, the long horse may likely retreat, however as I mentioned earlier, it may have telepathic abilities beyond humans, and may summon the help of another creature, such as the watchtower if nearby a small town, or a neutral creature. And if near a small town, perhaps humans will still be warned by one lil' nugget or multiple seeing how lil' nuggets and the long horse have similar, if not, the same intentions.
