LOR, the Movie
I wanted to give you an update on my ongoing animation project, LOR. I first began working on the project in the year 2000 and put it on hiatus in 2004, but it has remained a lifelong pursuit for me. Over the years, I have continued to work on bits and pieces of the project in my spare time.
In August 2021, I started the lengthy process of re-rendering the movie using 3dsmax and Ray. This has involved creating new scenic models, lighting, and materials, but the animation and editing timing have remained largely unchanged. In order to make the process take even longer, I decided to render the movie in stereo for display in VR visors, which requires rendering each frame twice, once for each eye. As of now, I have completed about 6 minutes of the 14-minute movie, with the remaining 8 minutes still to be done. At the 6-minute mark of the movie file, we switch back to the original renderings from 2004.
I am currently exploring newer rendering technologies that can help speed up the process, as I only have two older rendering machines to work with and a limited budget of around $100.00. Many people may be familiar with the original version of the movie that I made 20 years ago and distributed on DVD with video tutorials. You can still find that version on my UKposts page for comparison.
If you are interested in seeing the stereo version of the movie, please let me know. Please note that you will need a VR visor to view it. I used the Oculus 2 for viewing the movie. The file is quite large, so here it is on Dropbox at 5.58GB. Download and then transfer it to your visor.

I use SkyBox or Pigasus as the viewing app. Please don’t use OculusTV for viewing, it’s terrible.Settings are for a Cinema projection (not 180 or 360)Aspect ratio is set to 2.35 : 1
