Great test in rural area. In the company where I work, we tested LoRaWAN (not over ESP32, just industrial modules electronically built by us) and we got covered 1.5 KM in a City area (City of Buenos Aires, south area with a few building with no more than 20 meters tall). We have installed the Antenna and the gateway Kerlink in the building's terrace with 25 meters tall. I forgot: the frequency we used to transmit is 915-928 MHz for LoRaWAN over the US Band. Yet we don't test it in a rural zone yet, but your video is a good reference to estimate a real distance for any prospect project.

3:25 absolutely :P and I had exactly that router as a kid! That said, my only connected computer was ethernet wire length away. I'm sure I would cry if I had to use G at ~2mbps again. Next time, try steel electrical conduit. It's stronger and you can screw pieces together firmly (as long as europe works the same way as the US and you can get this feature) and you can also use guy wires (steel cable).

Square tubing may be stronger but my best suggestion would be to tie the top of the tube to at least 3 or 4 points to the ground, that should stop the top from moving. Cool dogs hahaha... support cables in threes (or more) at midpoint(s) as well at the top would greatly increase the stability and could enable a greater height and/or smaller tubing.

Interesting. I have been wondering about something like that being available pre made. I'll have to keep an eye on it. Very interesting. Do you think it would work with external antennas like omnidirectional/panel antennas? Lol may be possible to use a yagi on a rotator that would track the unit based off the GPS coordinates it provides! If one could make it accurate enough, they could maybe get away with a parabolic antenna. Maybe it would work better if the tracking was based off Elevation and Long/Lat. I guess it depends on how quickly/often you could send and receive the data in a usable form to keep up. If the aim was off, the signal would drop when using the distance you get with that kind of long range, narrow beam antenna. A nice little yagi may be better for the job overall. Then again, it does have two antenna ports, so why not both?....prob a few reasons 🫥

According to the Wiki it have between 0.3 and 50kBit/s/channel. So... it seams like the answer to that would be yes. It seams like it uses a Ultra narrow band CDMA.. I would guess the 1Mbit/s rating is for all the channels

Thx for the video...we think on using LoRa as the last Master Communication -Node in our nRF24Mesh. we managed to "mesh" several esp8266 with rf24...LoRaWan can finally broadCast this into the cloud...mmh here i´m swimming still...you show this GateWay...nice..but then again i will need a wlan router (hotSpot) ..our setup is planned to get used in areas without wlan and stuff..so it seem..if no router (e.g) is available i will need a GSM module trans-mitter...mmh..my learning curve on this need a booster..will read more on this "edge"..

There is only enough bandwidth for intrusion sensor (on-off dry contact, such as door opening), there would not be enough bandwidth for security camera video feed.

from HAM radio, if you want a quick/light mast just buy a cheap telescopic fibreglass fishing pole (get one a couple of metre longer than you want as you throw away the two thinnest sections as they are too thin/flexible). You can sometimes get them reduced as end of line in the German discount grocers.
