My favourite part about these Maori songs is the fact people that have never heard a Maori word before, are now being introduced to it through Lorde. Thank you Lorde for spreading our language/culture in a modern time before it gets completely forgotten about.

The NZ national anthem used to be sung in english only until Dame Hinewehi Mohi sung the Maori version only at the 1999 Rugby World cup. Since then, NZ sings it in Maori and english. It's absolutely wonderful that Dame Hinewehi Mohi is singing the main vocals of this song!

In school in the 80s it was compulsory for us to sing the anthem in english followed by Maori version. Pretty cool how it became the norm so I already knew the translation

Ae, Hinewehi has an amazing & beautiful voice. She has been a huge influencer throught her career. Thank God shr decided to sing the anthem only in Te Reo or we'd all be still singing in in only one NZ official language. Can definitely hear her on this waiata. These te reo maori versions are AMAZING! I love how it isnt just a direct translation or re-recording, but instead sometimes different lyrics and whole new sounds! Lorde truly remade half her album, and it’s clearer than ever in this version of Fallen Fruit. Absolutely love how divine this sounds

Lorde, thank you for doing these songs in Te Reo. It is very admirable when a mainstream artist uses their status to support indigenous culture and language. I think you sang them very beautifully. I dont care what some say in terms of who has the right to sing Maori songs blah blah. I personally thank you as Ngati Kahugunu for taking time out of your busy schedule, and caring enough to do this ❤

I agree! Every minority language (or any language) can benefit from having speakers & singers outside their ethnicity, aka L2 speakers using the language... Adding lines and words to songs in a minority language can be just PR, but this, translating a part of an album is a completely different yet authentic level!! Instead of using GT or a cheap solution, asking native artists for proper translation is a beautiful and respectful way.

I have never heard a secular song so sensorial and transcendental like this. It's wonderful. I think that some verses in Maori with the add of some vocals by those would fit perfectly on some parts of the original album. But this one is great!

Charlotte Ainley,Several of "Solar Power's" songs,Like Dominoes and California wouldn't translate.without changing the song to something completely different.The songs on the E.P. have natural and environmental themes like the songs on" Solar Power" so the changes make more sense.
