So, a “loss prevention agent” is basically someone that gets hired to heavily suggest the perpetrator to give the stuff they stole back?

@@ahsbaseball17 That’s honestly messed up to a whole new level. Imagine hiring someone to secure your store, and they can’t even do that because they would face more prosecution than the actual criminal.

What's even more fucked up is what the job does to you. It forces you to stereotype, profile, and then confront potential thieves. It only reaffirms fucked up ways of thinking, while frequently enough getting it wrong and making someone feel discriminated against. The few times we did catch thieves, they would just walk out the front door. We'd take their pictures, post them up, and submit a police report for insurance. What, are you really gonna risk your personal safety for someone else's property? Especially over a DeWalt tool. Lol.

@@BL4CK-L1ST This. I was a manager at a retail store that frequently had shoplifters. We had no official LP agents, we were them along with all the BS that comes with being a retail manager. The only real "weapon" corporate would allow us to use was "customer service". In practice this would literally be us following around potential shoplifters (like the lovely looking fellow in the video) until we became as much as a nuisance they would leave. 99% of the time in my area people won't steal within eyesight of an employee. So police brutality is "wrong," but loss prevention brutality is okay? It's wrong for homeowners to arrest burglars (see what happened to the men who detained Ahmaud Arbery), but okay for store employees -- who don't even own the store -- to detain shoplifters? Why should loss prevention have more rights than the real police or private homeowners?

@@MattandSadieBug the difficulty is a bit subjective. It depends on how the person deals with conflict, and how much they value the comforts it provides. It is often in the A/C, there is no physical exertion required, it doesn’t require any education or technical skills, it has little direct oversight compared to other retail positions, it has a degree of separation from workplace politics relative to most other positions, if you’re competent and are willing to put the company before thrives and employees you have better job security than the rest too, you have less requirements on you for customer satisfaction. Even most law enforcement (who’s job is 100% more draining than a 9-5 as a store mall cop; compared to 16 hour shift work), know until you’ve got someone red handed you calm them down and talk them into a comforted position to admit what they’ve done.

Yeah imagine if a loss prevention guy tackled somebody who he thought stole something only to find out the guy didn't steal anything. The guy that got tackled could sue the loss prevention guy and that company for millions of dollars. And would win. Is in a way loss prevention is kind of a joke.

He acted like tough guy and would say anyone F..k with him he'd hit them like a hammer. One day he chased after a guy into parking lot and when other LP people got out there they found him on ground. He had a huge hole in his forehead, they thought he had been shot. After police investigated ironically he was hit by a hammer.

Yep. HD employee here, can definitely confirm. Had a dude walk in with a receipt he clearly pulled out of the trash, climb a ladder to grab the $200+ impact drill, got confronted by a scared 18 year old girl, then lost his shit and walked right over to customer service trying to return it for cash instead. They would not give him anything as at least 5 employees had watched him do all this. Que 10 minutes of him screaming "Bitch give me my receipt back!" over and over, until he finally realized he had 15 employees all around him and cops on the way, finally dropped the drill an took off, peeled out of the parking lot just as cops were pulling in. We couldn't touch him, too much risk of a lawsuit. Unfortunately some laws seem to benefit the criminal over the offended party. Same deal at CVS. Teenage girls stealing $300 of makeup just dumping them in their bags or tweekers and junkies, walking in with receipts with nasty bubble gum and cigarette burns all over them, clearly dug out of trashcans right outside the door.
