This is the original and best quality version of Lost: Black Earth a Free SciFi full movie english on UKposts.
I'd like to take a moment to thank you, the people of UKposts. Originally this movie started out as a full feature-length independent movie but as completion drew near, it was obvious that we were only going to be able to make it a short (albeit a long short). With this came the reality that we would never get a release, nor make our money back. It didn't really matter, however, as it was a project about having the experience of making a movie more than the final result.
Leap ahead ten years and technologies and the internet have gotten to a place where any movie, no matter the length, can be released for free to the world. So on a whim in 2012, I decided to upload this little scifi movie I made back in 1999 to see if anyone would want to see it. With really bad internet at the time, it took over a week to upload but I stuck with it.
And now, in 2020, it has surpassed 3million views. Way more than I ever dreamed would see it. Some of you love it, some hate it. I love reading all the comments, even the negative ones (they keep me laughing).
So thank you to all UKpostsrs who have taken the time to watch this movie…
You can also watch this movie with my Directors Commentary and hear the stories of how we made this scifi movie with no money, no experience and no clue. Just follow this link • Lost: Black Earth - Sc...

----
Allow me to forewarn you, this was my first ever movie that I made with practically no money. I couldn't afford to go to film school so this project was my education. And educate me it did.
It is not a great movie by any stretch of the imagination and if I am being perfectly honest, I find it quite cringe-worthy to watch now. But it served its purpose in teaching me (mainly through mistakes) how to make a movie and how to tell a story.
PLEASE DON'T WATCH THIS if you are expecting something that competes with a Hollywood scifi movies that have hundreds of millions of dollars at its disposal. It doesn’t!
I directed Lost: Black Earth back in 1999. As well as being my first movie, it was actually one of the very first digital movies (yes, even before George Lucas made the all-digital Star Wars EpII). All up it only cost around $AU10,000 to make. We shot on weekends over a six month period and then I single-handedly took on the post-production, editing, visual effects, sound design, etc, in my spare time over the next couple of years.
At the time, it was a massive effort and an enormous amount of filmmaking and storytelling knowledge was learned. More than you'd ever get sitting in a classroom or reading a book. Even though looking back at it now there is so much to cringe about and so many things I can't believe I did. Since making this little scifi movie, my career has developed in the film industry as an editor and visual effects artist.
So to anyone who wants to make a life in the film industry, just go and do it. It doesn't matter if what you make is crap, at least you'll have made something. Just by making something, you put yourself above 90% of all the people who "want" to be filmmakers. But don't worry, they're the ones who will leave all the negative comments :D
Lost: Black Earth is a family friendly apocalyptic, Science Fiction, Action, Adventure movie inspired by great movies like Star Wars, The Postman, Omega Man, Starship Troopers and is available as a Free SciFi movie on UKposts.
----------
The Story
Escaping a devastating attack on her space station, the N.O.H.A.Gen. scientist Myola Jackson finds herself uncontrollably heading toward Earth in her damaged capsule.
Crashing on a coastline off Austrasia, she awakens to find herself lost on a hostile continent. Washed ashore, she is rescued by a Romid Warrior, Wez and his son Gart, who quickly find themselves pursued by the Kryslum aliens intent on her destruction.
To reach the safety of the coastal town of Dignity Bay, they embark on an epic journey through the treacherous and unpredictable environment.
Constantly pursued by the evil Kryslums, they are joined by an eccentric hermit scientist Fergus, who helps them rescue a Kryslum slave soldier they call José.
Together this band of misfits defeat the odds only to discover that the people of Dignity Bay are being held captive by the Kryslums. As it appears all hope is lost and chaos rules, they must fight in the last days of the black earth to bring forth a new dawn.

With all this bad mouth people this is just a short science-fiction movie. I like it. This is just entertainment for a rainy day. This is a great show to watch with out foul language and sexual content that you see mostly in today movies. Thank you for your hard work and having very little funds to work with great job

As an artist I can say that thinking it, then doing it are lessons forward. To experiment and have hands on makes the artist grow. To those with criticism. ...when was the last time you pursued an idea beyond your ability or depth. Thumbs up to artistic expression and those who take the leap...

Self funded, without the funds & space to build dedicated sets, one has to rely on the generosity of individuals & organizations to use their buildings, simply put you take what you can get, & if an old disused sewerage works, pumping station or refinery has to double as a space station so be it.

Very good considering the circumstances it was made under, VERY GOOD. 99% of the trolls who diss this are guaranteed to be unable to create something as consistently good to the point you really want to know the story line and can't wait to see what's next, even some high budget films don't have that quality. This was made with 10,000 dollars, and a very inexperienced yet highly talented crew.

The movie may be like a lower budget star wars (considering the $10,000 budget)but I really like it for what is, not what it looks like.I like it, because not only does it bring back old memories of the comparatively worse (graphic wise) than today's memorable films of the 1960's, but it seems like a really great effort for a first attempt at making a film, especially a digital film, with no prior film education. the story is interesting, if a little weird at times, and the acting was not hollywood standard, but this film should be seen as an inspiration to all who wish to make their own films but cannot afford to go to film school.

I love this at so many levels! I admire the fortitude and creativity of the cast and crew in bringing this story to life. Yes, it is clear that it is "low budget", but some of the best movies are low tech/low budget (and some of the worst overplayed high budget films have been some of the biggest flops). It's a little cheesy in some places of course (my favorite was when it rained but no one got wet!). But yes, definitely a fun little film. Thanks for your passion!

I would love to see Fergus fight side by side with Ronon from Stargate Atlantis in a cross over. ;) Taking a leak is an underestimated strategy in tight situation. I saw that "The Postman" is an influence wich is cool since Kevin Costner did some of his first roles in productions like this ( with close to no budget ).

That was actually a pleasant surprise. I was expecting a cheap and cheesy movie, but while it actually was a bit cheesy, it was not cheap. And I don't even mean "cheesy" in a bad way. This movie reminds me a bit of those late 80's and early 90's scifi flicks like Split Second, Omega Doom and the like, which often had a cheap look, but sometime actually were great movies.

***** Furzkampfbomber I'll never forget Trapped In Space, a B-movie from 1995 that I remember seeing once on the Sci-Fi Channel late @ night when i was like 15. It had a permanent effect on me especially cause their use of Tech & realism. Quite impressive for the time. And it really typifies what I'd like my Early Interstellar space-ships should look like. Complete with buttons and all. We've really abandoned tactile interfaces and that nitty-gritty "lived-in" feel of starships. like the Millenium Falcon, a "working man's" ship and no unnessecary wasting of space with a big wide-open bridge.

I hate to see comments that criticize and demean an honest effort at entertaining the masses. After all, you can't please all the people all of the time. I honestly liked the movie. Sure, it's never going to be a Hollywood blockbuster, but it kept my attention to the end. When did everyone become movie studio executives? Some of you act like you are film school professors and know the ins and outs of movie theory. Sit back, watch and either enjoy it or not. Negative comments only go to show how much free time you have on your hands. I applaud those of us with the courage to step out and show us their particular and unique arts. I can' make a movie so I enjoy watching those that can turn their thoughts and ideas into this creative medium. Keep up the good FUN!

Nice movie! Considering absence of budget, one can't hire pro actors only. But even so, nice. What I do to get the ambience of 24p panavision 35mm film is, I fix the aperture to 1/25s or at least 1/50, so I get a soft cinematish motionblur (and use a grey filter on the lense if there's too much light), this helps to get rid of the "video-feel". Don't wanna be a smartass, just try to share stuff.

Your editing techniques and choices of music culminated in a work that has a roughness that works to make your film give the feel of desperation as well as desolation. Sometimes a squeaky clean production can't do that. While not perfect, this work shows just what can be accomplished through ingenuity and determination. I graduated film school in the 80s, and this made me miss that time with the hope and positive attitudes. I hope you accomplish many great things. :)

U're correct aobut ur own movie, and I appreciate what u had to say about it. I would be glad to b able to make something so well without any instruction aqnd withou8t any school or previous work in film. Even so, there is a good story line and the music is not so overwhelming that one cannot hear the dialogue like some practiced 'professionals' do. I cannot stand to watch movies that one cannot see becquse they are too dark or one cannot hear because of blaring music.

Oh, man, I would have thought that UKposts or whoever takes cares of the closed caption text might consider paying someone else maybe even less than they are currently paying to whomever sold them that stupid translation software. The dumbware they use seems to literally translate (even English into English) by ear, meaning the bot translates what it finds in its database to most closely match what it hears. Most of the time it is hilarious. Any sound it does not recognize it proudly announces [Applause]. After one kazillion instances of nonexistent applause, i thought someone would have noticed. Another valuable contribution to a future where no one will know how to spell "you can do a better job than that". Cheers

There was a time I was going to correct them, but then I thought, "that's a big job for a movie no one will watch." So I never did, but now with a few million views, I guess people did watch and maybe I should get around to it. The auto-generated ones are kind of hilarious though 😂😂

Your well come. I like the idea of new original thinkers. If you really look at it, my children listen to the same music I used to listen to. That is because there's not much new and original out there. Also, how many times are we going to re-do Spiderman, Batman, Superman so fort so on. There's not much new and original out there. It is refreshing to see that there's talent out there. I encourage you to continue your work. I look forward in the future to see more of your material.

I've had a very good time watching this movie. It's not that the acting was the very best, even though all actors did have their moment of greatness, and at one point about 2/3 through the story, everyone's acting was even excellent for quite a while! Most importantly, no one over-acted, and this gave the entire movie gave a feeling of earnestness and honesty. Priceless! I also liked the story, which I personally understood as a parabola of the tribulations we are living through now. The party at the end is exactly the kind of parties I like to go to as well! Thank you for giving me 45 minutes of memorable entertainment. Ah. I almost forgot: I really like this Fergus character. He reminded me a lot of Tim Ems, don't ask me why. He's got his own channel here on YT. I will drop him a line about this right now. Thank you! The result was well worth the effort, and you have a new sub to your channel as well.

Thanks for your comment tikabass, I really appreciate it and I'm glad you enjoyed the movie. I'm very curious to look up Tim Ems now to see a real life Fergus. Although I have to say, the actor who played him isn't far off in real life :D (he'll kill me if he reads this comment). It's interesting how when it was written the story was a possible thing and yes it has become more relevant in recent years. I don't think many people do get it though and that's okay too :)

Whoever did these subtitles must've been high (again), and hard of hearing. There's dodgy subtitles like these all around youtube. Most are really funny.

Great technology. Best available so far. A few more years or decades and they may reach as much as fifty percent accuracy. Lol. I know what you mean. But it is auto subtitling not film writen subtitles. So, think it had difficulties vith the Oz accents and techno words. Other more normal films are better. Not always a lot. But better. But so far they are never spot on. Just my opinion.

A perfectly watchable and enjoyable movie. The quality and effects reminds one of the early BBC productions of Doctor Who, and that is quite the comparison. The lead does a wonderful, although probably unintentional, Hugo Weaving. All in all, well done on the budget you had.
