I should be heading off to the cyclopean lairs of the Mycenaean warrior kings tomorrow. Alas Tiryns of the mighty walls, Mycenae, Pylos will have to wait until this quarantine blows over. No new footage for a while unfortunately folks. Let me know what you'd likes to see covered during this bizarre time. My schedule is completely changed right now with a vast amount of projects (such as Bronze Age Greece) on hold indefinitely. SO let me know some new topics to delve into. Please like and subscribe if you enjoyed the vid as that's how UKposts decides if you've enjoyed it or not, and why not share with a like minded history lover. Cheers guys! Onto the next one...

Why don't you continue with your schedule? I mean people wouldn't mind (They shouldn't) old/recycled footage. I mostly listen your videos, I guess many people do that. If you still insist on a new project, I think ancient mesopotamia is always an interesting object ( I really liked Jericho video, sea scroll was pretty good, too. ). Even in podcasts, you can find so many ancient greece, not that much for mesopotamia. Egypt might entice people's interest as well.

So maybe the normans in north africa, almoravids, almohods, georgas golden age, medival iberia (Reconquista) or the frankish civil war and the treaty of verdun which let to the forming of germany and france. I would dig deeper into the pharmacy and fertility of the Jaguar city all the while metal detecting for the Chief's golden hoards and gardens. Did you not see the enlarged sex organ on the mysterious pot figure?? Where were the prime cocoa growing plots and pleasure palaces of exotic redwood?? And what was their enlarged style of construction? How many specie of monkey live there and what are their habits vis a vis the jaguar and settlements?? After that I would be exploring Crete and Kalista for fields and settlements needing excavation and seeking the Minoan's large arteries of transportation with an eye to the presence of the earliest chariots in common usage around the Mediterranean. Will you find the Chariots of Atlantis for patroling the coasts and quickening shipments into the interior at Knossos? Lastly I would be attempting to reconstuct the island of Santorini/Atlantis before the great eruption with attention to the height and shape of the volcano of ancient birth that had been developing far and wide for thousands of years before the tragic eruption. Was it the Killimanjaro of the sea? We must find out.

Pete - when I was a girl (late 50's early 60's), I was totally fascinated by archaeology. I read everything I could find on ancient meso-American, Egyptian, SE Asian, etc civilizations. I should have become an archeaologist, but other interests came along and I took another path. But what fun it is to see the things you bring to life in your videos on ancient civilizations! This particular one - Lost City of the Monkey God - is the most fascinating video ever made by anyone. Thank you!!

In 1987 I actually tried to find La Ciudad Blanca by taking a boat from Trujillo, Honduras to the Miskito Coast. I figured that "lost city" lay somewhere near the head waters of the Rio Platano and the Rio Paulaya. I was shipwrecked but saved by the Miskito Indians who lived in the village of Platano. I continued along the coastline to Brus Laguna, and then on to Puerto Lempira. I never got near where I thought that "lost city" was, but it was an excellent adventure. I tried again in 1997, traveling to the Rio Sico to get to Dulce Nombre de Culmi. I managed to get to some gold mines and stayed in the jungle in a tiny village with the miners. They wanted me to return the very next year with lots of guns and a few aluminum canoes so that we could explore the region down the Rio Sico and look for that Monkey God. I declined, but sometimes wish I had not. Fun times!

That's great, the history may not be lost though bro, In ancient Indian Vedic/Hindu Sanskrit text, A Monkey God called Lord Hanuman travelled to the land and a historical event occurred and was documented in Ancient Sanskrit text. Story of how Lord Hanuman(the monkey God) went to the land and defeated a demon adorning good over evil.. one of the stone statues found there identically depicts the Hindu/Vedic Lord Hanuman(monkey God). Maybe you can look into it further to find out more pleasing stuff about your history. These texts mentioned are thousands of years old too.

The problem is how they teach history in school. It's all about memorizing names and dates for a test then forgetting it by the next test. My world history teacher pulled me aside about my low grades and by asking a few good questions he realized I understood WW2 better than my classmates in the why's and how's but couldn't memorize dates. That teacher got me to explain to my classmates the why's and how's to make up the grades and I have loved history ever since.

Jaguars are indeed seen as powerful spiritual animals, the jaguar is known as the eater of souls which sounds terrible but actually means it is a healing animal, eats a persons soul, heals it and returns it to the person. I knew a Central American shaman, Martin Prechel, several years ago and he told me how his teacher told him he needed a totem of a living jaguar. So he went off into the jungle and was sat leaning against a tree with his eyes closed meditating, he opened his eyes and a living jaguar was inches from his face. Bear in mind each year jaguars kill people, he lifted his hand and plucked a whisker from the jaguars face. The jaguar turned, urinated on him then walked away.

The statue at 19:00-19:01 mins looks extremely similar to be a representation of Hanuman- the Monkey God in Hinduism. Maybe thousands of years ago the world civilizations were more fluid and adventurous- with exchange of socio-cultural thoughts & ideas between different people & geographies! The people in the Indian subcontinent were extremely accomplished maritime traders, explorers and had outstanding knowledge in arts and sciences. There must have been exchanges and contacts. Really can’t deduce anything directly in absence of direct evidences, but, who knows how it was all those millennia ago!!!!!!!

What do you think the Black Plague was ? .Most South American indians died Because they had no immunity to European disease .Europe went thru the same thing Black Plague when their population had no Immunity to far East mid East diseases. Mexico and South America Had Human Sacrafice On a Grand Scale . Missionaries wrote about Decapitated heads hanging on Walls 130,000.! They Just found Proof of these Massive Slaughter of victims In Mexico. 2015 Some conquistadors wrote about the tzompantli and its towers, estimating that the rack alone contained 130,000 skulls. But historians and archaeologists knew the conquistadors were prone to exaggerating the horrors of human sacrifice to demonize the Mexica culture. As the centuries passed, scholars began to wonder whether the tzompantli had ever existed. Archaeologists at the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) here can now say with certainty that it did. Beginning in 2015, they discovered and excavated the remains of the skull rack and one of the towers underneath a colonial period house on the street that runs behind Mexico City's cathedral. (The other tower, they suspect, lies under the cathedral's back courtyard.) The scale of the rack and tower suggests they held thousands of skulls, testimony to an industry of human sacrifice unlike any other in the world .www.sciencemag.org/news/2018/06/feeding-gods-hundreds-skulls-reveal-massive-scale-human-sacrifice-aztec-capital

Fantastic work, always. I've watched quite a few of your videos multiple times because I tend to out them on in the background when I'm tattooing, or drawing/painting, and I always catch something that I missed each other time, and my clientele LOVES it. I've sent you lots of subs from my tattoo shop! Lol. Keep at it. Your star is just going to keep rising, and for genuinely contributing meaningful work to the planet, and that's sadly so rare today. All of my best to you and yours, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for you! Cheers from Canada! Also, the Great Courses Plus is AMAZING! And if you look at google earth and dig a straight hole in Uttar Pradesh in India, then it will come out from Honduras's rainforest region and around that area. This is all just my speculations. When I was a boy in the late 1950's and early 1960's, there in the cool and quiet rooms of the local Carnegie library were glass cabinets and glass topped display tables holding dozens of pre-columbian figurines, so housed to be visible from any angle. They were mementos of trips to Mexico, Central America, and the bluffs of the nearby Mississippi River. I think they were brought back by one of the librarians, but then again there were patrons of culture who supported that library. How I wish I had paid more attention to those objects. Today, no such unguarded display could be put out, nor could those objects be even legally acquired. They were in my boyhood time a center of controversy, being proof of human culture existing before the arrival of the pioneers and extinguishment of the "red race" and conveniently the Indians' claims upon the land. But at that time those controversies were over and above my concerns and only of note for their intrusion into my endeavors, an unwelcome annoyance from the world of adults.

@Jason2425able 2 роки тому
Big Al' I don't know if you'll see this after so long. But I have to say a pretty big history nerd and I don't really consider the Aztec to be a great civilization. There are key things about the Aztec that are ignored because of fantasy and that is that they didn't really build their own civilization. Before they were called Aztec they were simply called war dogs. They were largely a nomadic warring tribe that literally made everyone's life miserable. We find through records that they through constant warring managed to push out the native tribe's that built these cities and took them over. They pushed them down into South America where they integrated in with their cousins but they never forgot what the Aztec did to them. These records were passed down through oral histories and codex that have been translated, as well as what the conquistadors found out while there. So in the end I just can't appreciate the Aztec as a great civilization because on their own merits they didn't build they only destroyed.

So True, though the culture and history has been lost to the area only not entirely... This is an ancient Indian civilization.. reference to the monkey god is an Indian Hindu/Vedic religious God called Lord Hanuman.. texts documented in ancient Indian texts called Sanskrit will give you all the answers. This area was said to be the land where a demon dwelled and ruled. An epic battle/incident occurred thousands of years ago where Lord Hanuman (monkey god) defeated the demon King and good adorned over evil in a short summary. Involves great warriors, saint's,sages and wisdom.

Devananda das Hardly. No (even circumstantial) evidence Hanuman was worshiped by the indus valley civilisation. Their connection to vedic religion is little more than speculation at this point, but not unlikely. A connection to Hanuman specifically though is just not there at all! On the other side of the earth we have Honduras and a monkey god in a culture that cannot have had any connection to the vedic religions at all! The last time anyone there could have had contact with an ancestor of the indus valley people is over 10.000 years before the indus valley civilisation began (and that’s pushing it), and then we have to add another 4-5.000 years before this monkey god appears! Besides the fact that both look like monkeys there’s literally no connection between the two.

There is still so much archeological meat to be unearthed here. And it's the kind of work we can do without being terrified that we are doing to soon. We are quite good at preserving and studying large settlements covered in stone. I mean all the surface layer stuff could be done here without comprimising any future digs. And would actually probably be protecting many of the artifacts from falling prey to looters.

Another great documentary man! We are spoiled with this hour and fifteen minute runtime:) I have been eagerly awaiting this since its announcement a couple days ago. I hope you are safe and if you are looking for ideas, I would love to see a doc on Uruk and the first cities in Mesopotamia. Regardless I can't wait for the next one:)

In the book: "The Chronicles of Akakor" we can find a map of southern America with a network of ancient cities some above and others under the ground. They were connected by roads and tunnels. The area was inhabited by aprox. 350 million people. They lived there at least 20,000 years.

It seems that one of the figure shown in the news article at 23:21 is very famous Monkey God ' Lord Hanuman' from India and the very recent discovery on the Angkor wat also points to the main Deities (Vishnu) in the temple also from India. Perhaps, when doing studies, scholars must take of into account the ancient Indian History/ divine figures for easy understanding.

The history of various cultures is incredibly interesting and while I am from the UK and most history that I have studied is European based, The Latin and American nations hold much mystery and fascination! Yes Greece, as you mention in your comments is of particular interest to me, particularly Alexander and subsequent rising powers after his passing, encompassing the "Goat" power " (Aegean meaning Goat sea) of Dany'el prophecy is of course truly fascinating since history backs up prophecy here in many ways! I like the way you put forward ideas without demanding that people accept your ideas as truth, but simply as a suggestion for consideration! Another interesting point is the connection between Cambodian and Myan and Central South American cultural differences, but similarities! I live next door in Thailand and have seen some of the Cambodian Rock temples! Next direction for you? I don't know - Cambodia??????Thailand??? Whatever you decide, you will create much interest! Thank you for all your efforts, a really good and interesting watch!

Hi there, agree with you... This is an ancient Indian civilization and has been documented in old/ancient Indian text called Sanskrit. Refer to the Indian God Lord Hanuman.. depicted as a monkey.. Monkey features... And even in Cambodia... That's ancient Indian civilization religion..Hindu religion with buddhism though it's from a more recent time than the Honduras found I believe... It's said that an ancient battle occurred in the area of the Americas but known as ancient names not the present one.. Lord Hanuman (monkey god) won against an evil king/demon and good was adorned over evil. Even with Greece as you mentioned.. documented battles with Alexander the Great defending their civilization and people to even fight alongside the Greek(city of Olympus/Olympians). To stories of how measles and smallpox affected the people and a God/divine reincarnation in human form of the lord helped the people create a natural cure to it. The chile pepper and other stuff farmed are more indicators. The devil mentioned here was real.. a demonic entity defeated the monkey god(in Hindu religion known as Lord Hanuman).

This city story seams similar to the countless story and findings of hundreds of gold and stone sculptures in Alajuela and Guanacaste of what once was the Nicoya Empire. A empire that shared the Mayan-Inca cultured. Many stories from both of the Incas and Mayans tell that every “year” they visited the wisemen of the spheres. Today hundreds of giant rock spheres are found all over Costa Rica, and a pattern has been found between many of the rocks all over the country, connecting Cuba and the Easter island of Chile. Also due to a plain crash in the jungle many of the people describe and took photos of what looked like giant entrances of the biggest Mayan cities in Mexico and also giant piramidal mounts of dirt. In 2011 when this incident happened, there was a lot of impulse for explorations explorations and to research a bigger part of the already known city of Guayabo (only 0.6% of the territory is accesible to the public and it is believed to have even temples, where as the accesible part was were the lower class lived.) However this quickly vanished as the Costa Rican government was against it due to their high interest in protecting nature
