In this video, we’ll share some low budget tips to bulletproof your home.
Now just some quick disclaimers. First, when it comes to prepping, you shouldn’t talk about it. Other than your family, nobody should have a clue that you're stocked up with grub, water, and supplies. Once the word gets out that your place is the go-to spot when stuff hits the fan? You better believe everyone and their mama will be on your doorstep.
Let's face it, hunger can make the sweetest person go rogue. They'd totally swipe your last can of beans without a second thought. So, either keep it on the down-low or deal with the drama-up to you.
Please subscribe and give a thumbs up!

Pennsylvania is full of quakers houses I pointed many of them back in the 90s most had walls 3 to 4 feet thick and commonly field stones are the main resource because the Amish would take the stones out of there fields when plowing and build more houses. Those houses are hundreds of years old and today a house last about 30 to 40 years if no one committed to keeping it nice . We truly are a disposable society worth nothing but the paper we stuff in our wallets guides our society into false narratives and greed we truly are doomed.

When I worked construction it amazed me how easy it would be to get into a new house. All it would take is a utility knife to cut thru the vinyl siding, foam and drywall and then you are right inside. Just having the entire outside covered in plywood before the siding is put on would make such a difference instead of using insulating foam sheets.

@brianb8003 3 місяці тому
For a private home, I agree, but when you see that on government buildings it's a gambit. They're supposed to be obvious to an attacker to use for their own personal defense. But the general idea is that area can be easily engaged by another part of the building's floors or another building on the property. It's giving someone an obvious go-to position when said go-to position is very weak at defending from another location. You see this strategy around many US Embassies. There are solid areas where you initially think, "An attacker can use that as a staging area for their own advancement." Until you realize as part of the defensive protocol there are Marines are in another building with clear line of sight to that area where the low defensive wall offers no protection.

@@jrich436 As opposed to a window you can just toss the drill through? Nothing will keep someone out that wants to get in. You could just drive a car into the house and be in. I mean if they have a drill and don't mind the noise, they could just drill the lock and be in. So yes, you can drill a hole in plastic. It will melt. Glass can melt as well. You can drill through glass as well. If you have bars over the windows, you can cut through them pretty quickly with an angle grinder. If you have no windows, you could cut a window sized hole with a sawzall. I suppose I'm missing your point. I say replace the windows with acrylic, because it will stop a quick blunt force attack, unlike a window. While still looking like a window. Plus, It's really not expensive to do for a significant amount more security vs break ins. Just needs to buy enough time to allow you to grab your firearms and wait to open fire. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I did cut it myself. Super simple. Cost me like $145 for Lexan. 🤷🏼‍♂️ I guess I need to really watch it for people carrying alcohol and thread vs a hammer. Who knew people were so prepared nowadays. What your saying is dumb. People just don't carry that crap with them. They aren't thinking, oh I should bring a blow torch in case someone has acrylic windows. It just doesn't happen. I was merely stating a fact that everything melts. I didn't rant about anything. What you said was dumb. Because it's super unrealistic. What is realistic is someone using a hammer or rock to break glass to unlock the door. That's something that does happen. Noone is going around melting plastic windows. It's likely literally never happened in history. You have to be realistic with expectations. Of coarse swat would choose to go through a door vs breaking glass. They have the tools to do it. They need a rapid entry. I'm not worried about swat. I'm worried about realistic things. Like teens or a junkie breaking into my house. These are things that happen in REAL LIFE. I prepare for things that actually happen to law abiding citizens. I don't know where you live, but people just don't do what you're saying. You can't prepare for things that just never happen or you may as well live underground in a bomb shelter. Even then, you'd have to worry about the military hitting you with a bunker buster. So you'd still be screwed. Now please go on with your unrealistic situations. 🤦😮‍💨🙄

you have cognitive dissonance issues While saying the objective fact that anything can be defeated as a means to argue a defense for a silly suggestion you are now again trying to argue that your idea isn't silly by talking about the probability of defeating things You brought up melting glass.... MAKE IT MAKE SENSE Acrylic scratches easily and there is no way you are cleanly spraying ceramic clear in an exterior environment, let alone vertically from a rattle can.... If subjectively you accept that trash on the front of your "house", thats fine. But arguing that its a 1:1 superior replacement to glass is objectively silly DECADES of working with acrylic. Same with restoring vehicle headlights. Ceramic clears are hazy and work really well on things like valve covers and other under hood parts where we do not really see the gradual yellowing and the initial haze. They are ceramic to help with the heat engines put out NOT for your application. A good 4k clear sprayed from a gravity gun in a controlled environment is the only way you are going to get any decent lay up and consistency when it cures. Then timing the next pass as not to get a reaction with the new layer and the solvent as directed on the sheet from the manufacturer DOUBT you are that in depth No one is randomly walking up to your door while you are home and then getting surprised by your plastic sheet and giving you time to get to your gun because they are now banging on you 1/4" STALLANIUM plastic like a moron Teens and junkies are going through a window on the back or side of the house while you are not home Any real thieves are taking a long wrecker bar and distorting the frame braking that 1X either by forcing the bar through or pulling it off the 2X4 OR mule kicking it to do the same thing. If it isn't budging, they are going through a window again, you are weaving in an out talking about reality trying to defend putting trash on your house when you don't need to. Its your house to trash up my man Even IF my HOA wouldn't ask WTF am I doing, I'm not spraying hazy clear on plastic I fitted into frames in or around my front door on my house How you got that frame holding that sheet in? Stainless screws you drove through it? Wanna bet there's stress fractures because you didn't melt the holes into that sheet of Lexan or sand them diamond bits after doing low pressure high speed drilling with pre heatd bits and tape on your plastic? And a good solid kick from someone who knows to kick THROUGH it with their weight not at it will fracture either it AND the frame? Because you have what? 1/4 or less between the edge and the hole to secure it to the frame? How long are those screws? What are they fastened to? Solid wooden door? Standard 1X window frame? Acrylic or Aluminum frames? 145.00 to use up hours of your life, make your house look cheap and add NO security so you can look through hazy plastic... followed by typing all this 😆 You are a special type of person @@ryanguldbrandsen7672

On the fence side of things, you missed one of the best options possible: Natural barriers/deterrents. Specifically, purposely selected shrubbery or trees or bushes with THORNS. There are many ways to deploy these, and if you pick the right species it's as, or more than effective than barbed wire. Line your property line or fence with these and people are just not going to bother.

Doubling the outer wall thickness of your home, filling the inner space of with layers of whatever you can affordably get hold of, will stop most projectiles from getting through. Reinforcing outer doors and windows is also good but the best defense is to prevent intruders from ever getting close to your home. Blackberry bushes around the perimeter of the property limits the access points people can use for gaining entry. In true SHTF situations, quickly block these entry points with downed trees, old vehicles, whatever you have in the moment to stop vehicle entry. Motion alarms or cameras that already monitor these limited entry points, giving you time to prepare your "greeting" before the now "on foot" intruders can reach your home. I recommend a good 12 gauge pump shotgun for home defense. But if you live where guns are banned, just get multiple cans of Wasp & Hornet Spray. Place them at the ready around your home, near doors and windows. They don't require a special permit and can hit a small nest over 20 foot high under the roof's overhang. So hitting a target in the face before they're close enough to get hold of you is very doable. Shooting through a screened door or window opening can also stop close targets from getting in, without damaging the screen that's between you. Their eyes is what you always want to hit, but into mouth and/or nose can also be effective. Non lethal but will definitely stop most intruders, two and four legged, in their tracks. A good Crossbow can also be used to stop intruders, without disturbing your neighbors the way gunshot sounds would. Making them a good option if you live where laws only protect the criminal. Where you don't want your neighbors and/or local law enforcement interfering in your chosen method of dealing with these criminal intruders.

Lots of other things you can do such as replacing those large picture windows with smaller (12"x12") windows that will deny easy access into your house. Your typical wall won't hardly slow down bullets but if your make your walls thicker by taking off the sheetrock, adding another width of 2x4s, then stack either bricks or concrete blocks into the walls using 2x2 or 2x4 like rebar to keep the blocks aligned vertically and replace the sheetrock. You may need to reinforce your foundation to deal with the added weight especially if you choose to use rebar and fill in the block hole with concrete, but this shouldn't be necessary as even though the impact of bullets will tend to break the blocks the outer wall and inner wall will keep it from going anywhere and the block holes also help dissipate the velocity of bullets! Anything you can do to make your house more fire resistant is good even if it's only to set up a sprinkler system on top of your roof though getting a metal roof is better! Make at least two racks on each door that you can quickly throw wooden beams across (even just 2x4s). One at about 1/3 up and the other at 2/3 up and sliding bolt locks at the top and bottom of each door! Place 4x4s in the walls on each side of the doors to lag bolt the racks onto! Of course, keep multiple fire extinguishers handy! Plants like yucca placed under your windows will discourage 'peeping toms' as will a shotgun! The large planters at military installations are there to help block vehicles that are being used to ram into walls and doors! A stair-steeping barrier (part empty moat and part steps) will do the same thing! Make sure to use wooden boards to help keep the rains from eroding your steps and provide adequate drainage!

Place a cast iron fence facing the street, then a row of quick-growing, thorny trees inside the fence, set closely together. I hate locust trees, but they would be useful in a narrow range where you won't be mowing or walking. I would plant some thorny roses or other thorny hedges in front, facing the house, leaving a gap between the trees and the hedge. Put a tall cast iron gate at the top of the front driveway, flanked by thick brick berms on either side. When building, put sandbags in the middle of the brick berms before sealing. Top the berms with built-in shards of cut glass. Get a dawg or two who are down with biting intruders.

See through fences are the way to go. Solid walls are terrible. Chain link is the best but you can use some of the nicer stuff like wood or metal trim with hog wire square pattern or you can use the rope criss cross pattern but use heavy gauge wire instead. Plenty of ideas on pintrest to make it look good without that nice rusted ghetto metal chain link fence look. Used with 2 or more layers can trap mob groups or attackers between layers with no cover (heavy duty property line barrier, with inner barrier that is more decorative but still functional). They are at the mercy of your freedom fry dispenser when trapped between the two with no cover (best place to put your laser trip wires and spot lights) while you are behind the protective barriers of your house slinging fries. Honestly none of this stuff will protect you without a freedom fry dispenser and tons of freedom fries. Love the potted plants with sand filler and plates.

The last place I’d want to be in a shtf scenario is in an apartment complex I’ll take my chances in a brick house over that any day
@brianb8003
@brianb8003 3 місяці тому
Depends on the apartment building. My last one? I would pick that over a suburban brick home any day. There were 400 units that all looked identical, with identical hallways and carpets and doors. Nothing stood out. You were "lost in the crowd". There was as single ingress/egress point to each apartment, the door. Which was solid wood with a deadbolt that didn't go into wood, it went into a metal frame. Because the building was constructed with metal frames for strength since it was 15 stories. It had concrete walls on all 4 sides, plus ceiling and floor. My apartment was 1200 sq ft. I had a spare bedroom with walk in closet that I stored 2 months of water, and 2 months of food. And since water cubes stack on top of one another the sq ft footprint they take up is remarkably small. Food was also easy to store in the spare closet. Concrete/metal buildings with asphalt roads each block are remarkably fire resistant. I was armed, so anyone attempting to breech the one entry way had to first figure out how to overcome 10's of thousands of pounds of force. Because I could wedge the couch between the door and a wall (lengthwise). So you literally had to break a couch in half to open the door. And then figure out where I am in the apartment about to engage you with deadly force. Considering the average person has less than 3 days of food available, and the Pentagon released a report that said within 1 month cities would have a near 90% mortality rate. I could wait out any incident. So I would take THAT apartment over a house with multiple windows, multiple floors to defend, and an attacker with room to operate. Such as front/backyards or longer distance engagements from forests, etc. My hallway in the apartment building was only about 8 feet wide. That's very little room to build momentum to generate force. When I bought my condo, it was even MORE defensible. But my house in rural America? Hmmmm..... It is *very* hard to find. It can't be scene from the road, and the driveway is quite hidden. But *IF* it's found? I'm in trouble. It's very large and I'm one person. There's dozens of ingress/egress points and the walls are just plywood and insulation really. Nothing is bulletproof, and I'm surrounded by woods which mean I'm HIGHLY susceptible to fire. There's acres and acres of woods around me, so it makes monitoring the home very easy for an attacker, and engaging from hundreds of hidden locations. It's ONE defense is that it's hidden. But if discovered it becomes nigh impossible to defend. It's too big. So there are MANY instances where I would take my old apartment, or I would prefer to be in my condo if a SHFT event happens (which is 4 blocks from my old apartment building in the city). But statistically I'll be in the house. As I rarely go into my place in the city anymore.

You should probably fire proof it. If someone is trying to drive you out of your house and you won't come out and they can't enter without being shot, they'll just set it a blaze and then you must come out. I suggest also building underground tunnel networks in that lead a mile into the woods. You pop out of a bush in the middle of the forest.

Also, if you have firearms it is absolutely imperative that your children know about them, what they can do and how to handle them properly. Do not hide your firearms in the sense that it's a secret. By doing that, if they happen to come across them the novelty will force them to play with them and tragedy may strike. By educating them you will seriously reduce the chances of them seeing them as toys or as something "cool". A day at the range with some sacrificial watermelons will go along way in instilling respect and proper handling of the weapons. >Do you think you're tougher than that watermelon we just evaporated? What do you think might happen to you if you get shot? 1.The firearm is ALWAYS loaded 2.NEVER point it at anything you are not willing to destroy 3.Keep your finger off the trigger until you are sure you're going to fire 4.check the area behind your target before firing. The last one does not apply in a life or death situation unless you can safely do it without giving your attacker an advantage.
