As someone who's been a chef for a decade and a woodworker making cutting boards for a year, the best juice groove is NO juice groove. They make the board harder to clean, harder to scrape prepped food into a pan, and reduce usable surface area. Don't bother making a jig that only reduces the functionality of your artwork. That said, I appreciate your project videos.

I completely agree with your assessment here. My only rebuttal would be that aesthetically they look more professional with a groove

I'm no chef or woodworker (despite making cabinets, tables, dressers and having worked food service for nearly a decade in my early years and making 99% of the food my family eats) but I have to agree that less is more. I never put a groove on my end grain cutting board I made decades ago it remains just as beautiful and functional. I make end grain cutting boards every Christmas and always do research as I start them.

Love the jigs for juice grooves. I love how you have to keep in experimenting all the different ways you can get the same results. This stands you apart from the rest of the channels. A great differentiator. Good for you. My tried routing a juice groove in one of my cutting boards but started off going CCW and then had a groove running into the center of the cutting board. So I immediately made arrows on my jig showing the correct CW direction. All of the pieces have arrows going CW. To correct the error I made a juice reservoir from my error. This involved making a jig that would fit inside the original jig. It uses the routered slot to anchor the inside pieces and makes making the reservoir easy. Shot me a link if you want to see the photos. Keep up the exceptional good work.

I have been watching your channel and was trying to pick up the first project for starting woodworking. This seems like the simplest one to start. I only had a circular saw before, now got a trim router, got this exact boards from Lowe’s, and made cutting boards. After applying oil and conditioner, these came out amazing! After first round of putting mineral oil, I sanded with 320 to make it smooth again.

OMG! I saw your 3rd router option tries and I thought, “I wonder if the fence you made hung down more on the side of the board…if dowels were inserted to help guide the router and follow the board edge?” !!! You deserve a lot of respect for showing work that you try but leave the normal errors off the final video posted. That is still part of these processes and still gives important information to people wanting to learn from techniques in video demonstrations. subscribed.
